Women are able to get pissed off exclusive of having or expecting their menses. Playing to the cliche/stereotype is not appropriate, and certainly something I did not expect to hear from you, you stoned, socialist, asshat. |
What are cliches and stereotypes for, if not to play to?

Bascially it boils down to this folks: not everything you say is going to be taken in the context that you mean it all of the time. You may be hitting someone on a day that they are not up to "playing around" (and god knows I have days like that..just ask Syc). ;) |
What can I say :) I get really bad moodswings and hormone problems atthat time. Its usually what clues me in to when I am due ( cause I dont pay much attentionto calendars) The first I know about it is usually I have launched a completely unwarranted atttack at someone close to me and am already trying to hold back the tears....Just the way I am, so thats where my mind leapt to. If thats not your experience of it then you would likely just see it as a stereotype. It is a stereotype but that doesnt mean some us dont have that experience.

the thing i always found interesting about PMS is that it is a self fulfilling prophecy of sorts. by identifying it and giving it a name....PMS....we are perpetuating it's existence. Even though most women will kill you slowly if you accuse her of suffering from it, they have no problem talking about it when it's not them.
and stop talking about menstruation in a thread with my name in the title.....i think i'm starting to develop breasts. |
Mostly the problem comes in when a woman is accused of or assumed to be menstruating because she has expressed annoyance/anger/snappiness/emotional distress etc usually assumed by men ( not always) and usually for no other reason than that the woman has engaged in an overt display of negative emotion. ...This of course has been extended to include political passion or frustration ....
if on the other hand a woman is displaying what appear to uncharacteristically explosive behaviours and responses to situations and stimuli that havent changed significantly there are a number of possible causes and PMS is on the list. |

I makes sense, if you don't feel well physically, it could alter your mood, so there's probably some basis. But, terribly overused as an explanation/insult. That being said, I have known a couple of women that do an absolute Jekyll/Hyde, like clockwork.:worried:
|
I'll admit I go pretty wacko, but instead of getting bitchy I get emotional/depressed. Curled-up-on-the-bed-crying-for-no-reason depressed. Doesn't happen every single month, but the pattern is undeniable. Usually lasts about two days and then it's gone.
|
Sometimes, I find I'm in a bad mood and I realize there's no reason for it. Then I check the calendar and find out it's full moon. A soon as I realize that, I'm OK for the rest of the day. Yeah, weird.:haha:
|
*nods* I find as soon as I realise where I am at in the month and that that is likely the cause of my depression/underlying sense of rage I am usually ok after that. It's when I am flying off the handle or feeling crushingly depressed and dont have anything to explain it that it is difficult to handle. Once i know what is behind it I can ride it out without too much unpleasantness
Heh. I had a next door neighbour years ago used to get really odd and aggressive around te lunar month. Was unnerving. He would be this really sweet guy most of the time ( in his late 70's) but then round about the full moon he'd become insulting, verbally abusive and downright unreasonable. Used to drive his wife loco |
Right now my mood is pretty shit, caused in part by the hot heavy high pressure weather we are having, it gets to me somehow, also I don't sleep well. Anytime soon now an electrical storm is going to start and I will feel better.:(
