Glatt, here is how I do the tails. The second part is to lay the pattern on your rafter stock, trace and cut. The plumb cuts are made with the circ saw, the scroll is done with the jig saw.

Always be sure to find the crown of your rafters and put that up.

Crown is the natural curve of the board.

Thanks foot! Pretty simple. You just cut to the traced line.

With my crappy old Black and Decker saber saw, when I cut a curve in stock that thick, the cut doesn't stay square to the surface of the board. The blade flexes toward the outside of the curve. I'm probably doing something wrong like using a blade that's too dull, or pushing on the saw too hard. It works great in thin stock though.

Please tell the Jamaicans that I will supply them with all the smokeables they desire during their stay here. (you too) I have two empty spare rooms and you can have the master bedroom while you are here. Central air, and cable TV in every room.

We will need a permit on the deck so it will have to be scheduled a little. Also I will be needing soffits but nothing special, painted plywood I assume.

If you have someone who can do bathroom renovation, or drywall ceilings, that'd be great.

All jig saws do that. A sharp blade, fairly coarse and slow feed can help that somewhat. Then throw some 50 grit paper on your random orbit sander and even up the cut. 50grit on a R.O. sander is great at stock removal.

UT, the Jamaicans are strictly farm workers and part of this gov't exchange program where they have to take the whizz quiz when they return home.
