tater tots are delicious. McDonald's hash browns are disgusting.

I like my tots crisp and kind crunchy. Mushy tots are as bad as McDonald's hash browns.

agreed. McDonalds hash browns are like a big, uber greasy, soggy-boggy potato chip. Yick.

Damn. I have to confess I liking for McDonalds stylee hash browns (or "hashee brahns" as the Italian server on the breakfast shift used to shout to the kitchen at my local McD's).

Tell you what - first Dwellar to buy me/ cook me proper hash browns gets 100 extra Cellar points. Of course, you gotta fly me over there first...

God, that sounds good, though!

Tater Pie.

Potato pie is very similar to Pumpkin pie. Potato pie is very popular in the South made with sweet potatos or yams.

Carver was promoting sweet potatoes, and from "a lump of butter the size of a hen's egg", I'd say dairy cattle, too. :haha:

Hash browns = the Bob Evans ones you buy in the store (next to snausagez and baconz) that aren't frozen: throw in the skillet with some canola and eat 'em up. :yum:

However, you actually go to Bobs and they give you chunks of potatos that are mushy and gross. They call them "home fries"? Homely fries, if you ask me.

only REAL hash browns come from a truck stop on I-95.

Everyone knows that.

Reminds me of the 7-Up cookbook that was linked to here a couple of years back. In fact there was a whole series of links to recipes of yesteryear. As I remember I almost got locked in the building because I couldn't stop reading them and laughing.

Have tried searching, can't find the link.
I'll repost if I do.

ETA - found the Weight Watchers ones (link by Mr Noodle, much missed)
AH! Turns out there is a link to The Gallery of Regrettable Food from the above website.
Please go look. Not only the 7-Up cookbook, but Meat! Meat! Meat! had me weeping. And probably more which I'm off to rediscover.

On 7-Up...

At least it’s pure; we all remember Upton Sinclair’s muckraking expose of the horrible conditions of the bottling industry, and how the government mandated strict standards to ensure that the amount of dessicated beetle shell or pigeon bile was kept to less than 1 part per trillion. “Wholesome” seems an odd word, since it has moral connotations – but so does “pure” and “good,” come to think of it. IS this soda pop or the fluid that weeps from a statue of a saint? They make it sound like something Doris Day would use as a douche.

Mmmm....
Doris Day Douche.
Great.
Now I'm thirsty....

I've never EVER liked tater tots!

They are the spam of potato.

Tulip 01-27-2010 11:12 PM

I don't know about y'all, but the McD near my home makes mighty crunchy hash browns. As much as I like them, I don't eat them anymore. Too greasy...:greenface
