I live over 100 miles from the gulf coast. Folks haven't forgotten Katrina. No water, canned goods in stores and they are full of people.
Damn! all I want is a few nanas and green onions.

If this one hits NOLA----well, I'm glad I visited when I did. 'Tis a cool city with tons of talent and just, well hell, the French Quarter is reason enough to save it!!! Plus, I always wanted a NO funeral for myself. They are SO COOL.

Man... if you thought some people were callous about rebuilding the first time, just wait and see how nonexistent the rebuilding effort is, if it gets hit again.

I fall into that category. I think that nothing below sea level should have been rebuilt, and if it gets hit again I'll have zero sympathy for anything below sea level getting destroyed. Build below sea level if you want. It's a free country. But don't expect any handouts/help/sympathy when you are flooded. And don't bail out any insurance company that is stupid enough to insure buildings below sea level. That's where I draw the line. Actually, I don't have to draw the line there, as sea level is a well established line already.

I am too timid to suggest names for hurricanes, but for tropical storms I have 2: T.S. Eliot and T.S. Garp. A - D, F, and H - Z are still open, but I'm working on them.

Clodfobble 08-29-2008 04:49 PM

Oh me too, glatt. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice...

TheMercenary 08-29-2008 05:11 PM

If it happens again they really just need to go in and remove all man made structures, do an environmental clean up, and let it become a lagoon.

Nirvana 08-29-2008 05:56 PM

Easy to say when you live in Texas, Virginia and Georgia? Why has there never been hurricanes that were as destructive before Katrina in that area and why would it only take 2 storms for some to want to shitcan the whole place?

Clodfobble 08-29-2008 07:07 PM

Who cares about the place, what about the people? Why should we encourage people to continue to rebuild in a location that is going to threaten their lives?

What does "the place" have culturally that isn't brought by the people? It's the people who matter--and if they want to put their lives and their families' lives on the line for a place, then they're welcome to, but it's not my job to buy them a third house when the second one gets washed away.
