Saw The Lives Of Others Saturday night. A friend had recommended it, but I had never heard of it. It's German with subtitles.

This is a very good movie. Takes place in the early '80s in East Germany. The main character is a member of the Stasi secret police. He ends up spying on a writer at the orders of a senior party official. As the film progresses, this guy grows to like the writer he is watching and he also finds out the senior party official is corrupt. He's very good at being a secret police agent, and he believes in what he does, until he realizes that his boss is corrupt. So he finds he's got some internal conflict and needs to figure out where his loyalties lie. Not going to spoil anything by telling the rest of the plot.

The excitement builds slowly at first, but it becomes a real spy thriller in the end, and you really have a hard time predicting what will happen. It's easily the best movie I've seen in months.

Monster Squad - 20th Anniversary.

It really is a great movie - especially for the kids.

Hot Fuzz

Just finished watching The Messengers.

Very good film. I spent a significant proportion of the movie seriously on edge. The kids in particular were cracking actors. Creepy, creepy film. From the makers of the Grudge. A very traditional, and well done, ghost story.

Shit.....Hot Fuzz. Great film.....sorry Sundae I'll post that to ya tomorrow. I am aware you must be starting to get serious Pegg withdrawals by now.

Disturbia.

Worth the three dollars we paid to rent it. No surprises, really, some ok shocks, some ok humor. Do not put the disc in first then go to the kitchen to ready your movie fare.

Chef! Series One. So funny! Lenny Henry is such a smart-ass.

Watched the new episode of Young Dracula - a BBC children's series that HM was working on in Wales recently. Funny, spooky (in children's terms) well written and well paced. Okay it doesn't have the same cross-over appeal as something like The Simpsons, but if your child had it on I guarantee you would put down your paper and watch it.

Currently on order is Isolation, a horror film he worked on in Ireland. I'll give my review when HMV get their fingers out of their arses and manage to post it - 48 hours delivery indeed, it was ordered on 30 October! He could have got a comp copy but is happy to support the business by buying - also means he gets all the extras.
