Waffle House is where everyone goes to eat greasy breakfast food after they leave the bars. At 2 a.m. you will see all walks of life in there!

Not the same, but it could do in a pinch.http://www.whitecastle.com/_pages/fr...state=Illinois

What? Frozen White Castles? What about the tasty freshness...oh, never mind.

Not a big fast food guy but have always loved White Castles. Not Sonic. When you're on the road or pulling an all nighter Waffle House and Huddle House are great for steak and eggs with a side of waffles or pancakes, and decent coffee. Best between 3:00 and 6:00 AM. Re-energize!

You have to give your body a chance to adapt to the new... ummmm... stuff it hasn't figured out how to kill yet. Once your body gets used to it - it may take a couple trips (I'd bring a pail the first few times till you get your confidence going) you too can enjoy the acquired taste that is Waffle House.

Waffle House is kind of like Steak N Shake? Twilight hour food, that's what I would think of.

elSicomoro 04-19-2007 02:41 PM

I actually used to frequent Waffle House until that night in Memphis. :greenface

Waffle House is like a crappier Denny's, IMO. If there was a hierarchy of greasy spoons, I'd say it goes like this: your local run-down greasy spoon-->Waffle House-->Denny's-->your local decent greasy spoon-->IHOP or Bickford's-->your local "hip" diner.

I like Steak n' Shake, but they're kinda pricey.

freshnesschronic 04-19-2007 03:23 PM

Denny's is pretty good and cheap. So Waffle House either isn't pretty good or isn't cheap. I'll assume the first.

elSicomoro 04-19-2007 03:31 PM

Good assumption. :)

I once ate a slider in Reno, just to watch myself puke.

What blows my mind about White Castle is how they can exist in an area with good places to eat. I mean, in St. Louis there's a WC a couple blocks from Crown Candy Kitchen. Seriously, WTF?

elSicomoro 04-19-2007 04:37 PM

People like variety...and in that section of St. Louis, they need all the variety they can get.

Strange. I've never been to our Waffle House at bar closing, but I have gone in for breakfast a couple times. I thought it was pretty good, for what it was. I was fascinated how the server would yell to the cook "Hash browns--scattered, chunked. 2 slices white toast. 3 eggs sunny side up." The cook never looked at or wrote down any of the orders. I asked him how he did it and he showed me he arranges a plate with condiments etc while listening to the order. For example. white toast might be designated by a thingy of grape jelly on the upper left section of the plate. Scattered hash browns might be a thingy of ketchup. It was pretty fun to watch.

...Because being bad news is what we're all about
We went to White Castle and we got thrown out...
