This is all very well, but what I want to know is, will the Pope pontificate?
|
Grr.
I just read in this morning's paper that part of Metrorail's plan in handling the crowds is that they hope lots of people will telecommute that day. If the regular commuters stay home, the delays will only be an hour or two long. This is also the time of Jewish holy days, and my boss, who is Jewish, will want me to be sure to come in that day to cover for her when she is out. I think I need to be here. |
It's kind of a shame he's not morbidly obese...Hippopopeamus!!
:jig: |
Yeah, that's a good one.:thumb:
Ferchristsakes glatt, why the fuck didn't you plan on taking the day off the instant you heard about this? At least run it by your boss to see if they balk. Hell, they might decide to tell everyone to stay home. |

I've been calling it pope a palooza. I made a conscious decision not to get credentialed to work mental health crisis for the event because I would have to commit to sleeping in some high school gym from Tuesday to Monday. The Diva don't play that. Also my first responsibility is to my own county. I will probably be at the emergency operations center all weekend. I'll know the plan next week.

Delaware County officials say they are now planning for 40% less SEPTA traffic at 69th street!!
Will it be a bust?? |
I hope it's a bust.
Yesterday the mayor asked DC workers to stay home if they can. She didn't make it official, but she's pushing. There is going to be a popemobile parade just a couple blocks from me, and tons of street closures, and the security checkpoints open at 4am, so pope tourists are being asked to start getting in early, before the 11am parade. That means they will be disrupting my morning metro ride. They don't have any idea how many people are coming, but all officials are saying there will be major delays. And the kicker is that I just found out at the end of the day yesterday that I have to do a 45 minute training that morning for new attorneys. They scheduled that training on Yom Kippur, so my Jewish boss who was supposed to do it, will be out, and I need to be here to do it instead. I have to come up with 45 minutes worth of material. Who schedules training during a pope visit and Yom Kippur? WTF? |

Huh. That wasn't too hard. Popacalypse. Use it ten times and it's yours! (apologies to Word Power from Reader's Digest) |
I'm flying out of Philly on the 20th for a fishing trip to MN. Returning the 26th... THAT should be fun.

Yeah, I'm leaving PA also. Don't want the Pope and his exorcists hunting me down.
