Thanks Dana. That's another one of those things I was familiar with
in today's (US) politics, but had never really looked into the history. |
Yeah. Fawkes tends toget remembered by some as a kind of freedom fighter against oppression. In a way he was, I suppose - he and his co-conspirators wanted to wanted to free England from the protestant yoke. But only because they preferred the catholic yoke.

I prefer egg yoke.

This would be a challenge, even for a blowhard.

The genius of Buster Keaton.

I used to watch Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd as a kid. And Laureland Hardy too. They used to play on weekends on tv.

I think the whole 2 minute video is worth watching to get the proper build up, but you can start watching at 55 seconds or so to see the action.
Anchor drop mishap. |

I guess the flames were from the 'brakes'? |
I saw that video awhile back and sent to a guy who'd been in the Navy, figuring he'd get a kick out of it. He replied with several horror stories he'd personally witnessed in just a couple years, about anchor chains gone wild.
|
after I saw this video, I looked for other anchors gone wild videos and there is one that happened on a US Navy ship. But the chains are let out from below deck in that one and the room filled with smoke so quickly in the video, you couldn't see nearly as much. It looks like it's not that unusual for this to happen.
|
Brakes fail, and I guess there's no back up system. Being the anchor and chain are expensive, and can mean survival for a ship in trouble, I should think they'd have something. But I guess it doesn't happen often enough to warrant it.

This flash mob happened three years ago. Better not do that today. :headshake

Ah bruce, that was great. I love how the actors all played it absolutely straight.

Relax, he's fine.
