Thanks everyone! I had a good day.

It's become a tradition for me in the last few years to take the day off at work.

My wife also had the day off, so we took the metro down to Rosslyn, just across the river from Georgetown, and we walked across the Key Bridge into Georgetown. They had put some new high speed elevators in at the Rosslyn metro station since I had been there last, and it was kind of thrilling to use those for the first time. They are glass, and you have three elevators in one wide shaft, so you can watch as you zoom out of this almost bottomless pit. It was a little scary. I have a mild fear of heights (I get a jolt of adrenaline when I look over balconies and cliff edges and stuff like that.) and these elevators gave me that adrenaline jolt.

So we went in to Georgetown and I got a lobster roll and a cup of clam chowder at Luke's Lobster. I had had a craving for lobster after seeing some pictures of my brother getting them in Maine posted on FB.

And we walked around Georgetown, which I hadn't done in at least 15 years. It was fun. We were gonna stop at Georgetown Cupcakes, but the line was out the door and down the block. I don't stand in lines on my birthday, especially for cupcakes. So we checked out the Excorcist stairs and then walked back across the bridge to Rosslyn again.

Opened presents when the kids got home. They got me a gas grill, and it wasn't supposed to come until next week but it showed up after we got back from going out for Mexican food, so I spent the evening putting it together in the living room.

It was a fun day. I also got a haircut and spent half an hour watching a big building get torn down. I kept expecting an accident because the building was about 10-15 feet from the road, and the road hadn't been closed. But only insulation fell in the street a little.

That sounds wonderful! Glad you had a great birthday. :)

I googly-mooglied it, grav. Totally cool! Father Karras didn't think so. ;)

Well, I missed some birthdays. Happy belated glatt and beest and Dana!

It's popular with both tourists in the know, and also fitness buffs. There's a handrail support bar they use for chin ups, and lots of folk jog the stairs.

Street view even caught some exorcist exercisers, or exorcistisers as the cool kids call them.

Street view shows they are posers though. Just standing around until they notice the Google camera, and then they quick try to look busy.
