Alaska: Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve
It’s hard to beat America’s last frontier when it comes to free outdoor activities. Case in point, Glacier Bay’s borders span 3.3 million acres — that’s not a typo. For an entrance fee of $0, you can trek across seashores and mountain summits, photograph crystalline glaciers, visit a living laboratory or check out a living biosphere reserve.
And get there for free if you hitchhike and don't eat for a few weeks. Perfect for a family outing (with a passport).

The free attraction in CA?

Look up.

In Alabama?

Go to a store.

ETA(<--ya see that, do ya see it? Huh do ya? Feel better?): KY's attraction? Brace yourself, drink bourbon. For free. Uh-huh. You get about a tablespoon. Srsly.

There's a critical blood shortage and there isn't even a government shutdown in progress!

Gift cards anyone?

Type O blood supply low, Red Cross offering gift cards for donations

The American Red Cross announced Tuesday that the shortage in Type O blood is so critical nationwide that the organization is offering $5 Amazon gift cards to donors as an incentive to boost supply.

Currently, there are only six units of Type O blood available for every 100,000 people, but at least two times that amount is needed every day. …

… Last month, approximately 11,500 fewer Type O donations were collected due to spring break, and schools reducing the number of blood drives organized at the end of the year.

Donors are encouraged to schedule a blood donation appointment today by using the Blood Donor App, by visiting redcrossblood.org, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS. Individuals can also open the Red Cross Blood skill on an Alexa-enabled device. ...

Solid gold toilet stolen from Winston Churchill's birthplace

LONDON (AP) — Thieves have stolen a solid gold toilet worth up to 1 million pounds ($1.25 million) from the birthplace of British wartime leader Winston Churchill.

Attachment 68688
© Provided by The Associated Press FILE - This Sept. 16, 2016 file image made from a video shows the 18-karat toilet, titled "America," by Maurizio Cattelan in the restroom of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. Thieves have stolen the solid gold toilet worth up to 1 million pounds from Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Winston Churchill. The toilet, the work of Italian conceptual artist Maurizio Cattelan, had been installed only two days earlier at Blenheim Palace, west of London, after previously being on show at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. … Prior to the theft, visitors to the Cattelan exhibition could book a three-minute appointment to use the toilet. ...

How many selfies could you send in 3 minutes?

Clodfobble 09-14-2019 11:37 AM

Standard size of a toilet is 72.4 cm tall, 49.4 cm wide, and 71 cm deep. That's roughly 253,936 cubic centimeters.

Now of course it's not a solid rectangular prism, those measurements are the extremities, so let's say as little as 1/3 of that volume is actual gold. That's 84,645 cubic centimeters (again with rounding.)

Solid gold weighs 19.32 grams per cubic centimeter. Meaning this thing weighs about 1,635,346 grams = 1,635 kilograms = 3,605 pounds = 1.64 tons.

The article mentions they used "at least two vehicles" to get away, which makes sense, but that's a hell of a thing to dolly out the door in the first place.

I'd like to see a picture of a dog drinking out of it (maybe a Golden Retriever).
