i have put a call in to a local guy that owns a sportswear business, to check his prices, but if we buy any kind of quantity here, we should be able to get a decent shiert for under $20, and still have some profit for the cellar. i think we need to think about how the money will work. how many do we order? just enough to fill the requests? or do we speculate on future users wanting them? damn nice looking design so far, i think i could sell it. how do we put the $$ together for the initial order? is anyone fat enough to front it, and collect in exchange for free shirts? i;m not. who has the deepest pockets? or how else can we put this together? |
I tried drawing a toad, but it didn't turn out as well as I'd have liked. It looks interesting as a negative image against a dark color, though:

He's a mean toad!! Put a smiley toad!

Once we have how much the shirts will run, we can donate to the paypal link. The donation thing has a space for optional messages. Just put in what sizes and stuff you need, include $2.50 for every shirt ordered to cover shipping. Of course, that means Tony has to do the ordering, paying and distribution, but I volunteer my over analytical, very organizational skills and lots of spare time helping with that part if he doesn't wanna do it. edit::I can give ya'll my pal pal account and leave tony out of the loop. Then all the profit I can donate to the cellar paypal account. |
I liked ljs last idea...but I think there should be only one toad on the back, leave it off the front.
I have no preference as to pocket...I quit smoking as my resolution this year. I'd pay in the $20's for a cellar tee. Hey, has anyone looked at these yet? Brian [edit] fixed the link |
Hanes Beefy-T Long-sleeve - Black
Screenprinting: 2 Color Front, 2 Color Back Quantity:70 (5 S, 10 M, 20 L, 15 XL, 15 XXL, 5 XXXL) All-In Price (free shipping): $14.18 each | $992.60 total (For 1 week Rush delivery add 25%) jut guessing about response, and sizes.........but, $20/shirt leaves the cellar $407.40 profit if all 70 are sold. I'd take 2 of them for jinx and I. |
We can put a deadline of say, March 15th to order. $20 per shirt + $2.50 per shirt for shipping. Indicate size and short or long sleeve (once we get the design worked out).
|
There's a local (Folcroft) shirt printer that's a major operation. They do a ton of sports leagues and concert stuff. They will do custom designs pretty reasonable. Quality stuff.

|
I posted an undertoad. that's my effort in the graphics portion of the program
|
oh, yeah. duh. scuse me.....i'm all excited too.
it was more of a underleopard frog, btw and the words are "under toad" .........? |
what are you babbling about?? undertoad isn't written, it's a toad UNDER the logo. under.toad. and it wasn't a leaopard, every knows that toads have spots and frogs dont.
|
Leopard frog.

except leopard frogs.

eh...? i like alan's toad, too. |
Me too.
|
although, as i look back at both of them, alan's is a little fierce looking, and mine has a certain speculative look about him.....might be more representative of the true Undertoad. ( to reiterate, i traced mine, and any conveyed mood or emotion of said toad is purely coincedental)
btw, toad, does this smack of hero worship, or false idol vibes to you? I'd not want to make you uncomfortable. |
did someone say "asshat"?
|
For $20 I'd buy a shirt (XXXL).
|
I was all ready to complain about having the toad get major billing because, most recent turn aside, I genuinely do believe the notion that this place is not and cannot be about "me" whatsoever, it's about all of us.
But the thing is, a toad is such a cool thing to have on a shirt! I like all the various toads people have come up with. I think the toad, as an animal, is basically funny, like there's just something about a toad. |
UT, stop being so modest!
john lennon is on a tshirt eminem is on a tshirt why shouldnt you be on a tshirt? i have only been here a few months but its pretty obvious you are the king around here. everyone likes you and respects you and what you do to keep the show on the road so if i were you id bask in the RESPECT. |
UT owns the joint, but he is King:king: by acclaimation, because he's earned it.
|
I'm definitely in for a shirt.
My $.02 is that it i think it should just be "cellar.org" with no www. or anything. And, despte the respect I have for UT and the appreciation I have for those who took the time to express the toad in the design, I don't think it works very well graphically with the other elements - it looks 'forced.' I like the designs that include the coffee shop tagline but I wouldn't put it on the back but in small font under the Cellar logo on the front. For me, the simpler the better. For me, Its less of a promotional shirt and more of a membership shirt. I wouldn't put anything on the back. But, whatever the final design, I'm in for an XL. |
I agree that UT needs to be honored on The Shirt (tm), but a little part of me sort of wants to have the artwork be one of the Webscalpel submissions.
I will be wanting one shirt in a 2X, with or without pocket, as long as it isn't white. Let me know when and whom I need to pay, please. |

We COULD have more than one design, I think. Perhaps we would have better end results, if there was some competition involved in the creation of these shirts. We could choose a long and short sleeve model. That would involve having a judging panel, or polls to decide which 2 shirts get made. Might sell more shirts, too. I could see getting one of each, if I like both designs, and they're different enough. We could have 2 teams that are seperately responsible for designing 1 shirt each. One team to do the long sleeve shirt, the other the short. Teams created on a volunteer basis; no choosing teams. Play to your strength. Teams will each sort out color, design, layout, logo, quality of shirt, number of colors, front/back/both/sleeve printing. in other words, from scratch. Collaboration breeds innovation. They will be cool shirts. I have to agree with Beestie that in practical application, i prefer plain backed Tshirts. And yet, the back is a much better canvas. And it IS promotional. Now, is promotion a good thing? Do you advertise the cellar? Or will we get flooded with asshats and crapflooders? I don't think most of you folk are hermits, and you are bound to wear your shirts out of the house eventually. When you do, some one will comment about your shirt. Depending upon how you feel about that person, you will react in different ways. If you think that they would be a positive presence in the cellar, you'll take the opportunity to tell them about it, and maybe even "recruit" them. This person may then want to buy his/her own t-shirt, and then they'll tell two friends, and then THEY'LL tell two friends.........And we'll be selling so many got damn t-shirts, that tony buys us all porsches for christmas! If you don't like the person for the cellar, you'll downplay it as "oh some website i went to one time" and steer the conversation away. There are other applications for efforts like these. we are building. We could turn the cellar into a self promoting promotion like the OBX stickers on the back of every other SUV along the Eastern US seaboard. People would flock to the .org just to be near us. The three monkeys would be an instantly recognizeable trademark adorning all ranges of apparell for the "in crowd". Shamelessly endorsing products from tshirts to CD compilations, book club favorites to the Cool Site of the Day. Kind of makes you want to cry, doesn;t it? |
I like OC's final front of the shirt design, with the logo from the masthead alone, and a tasteful "cellar.org." Adding the toad makes it way too busy.
I do like the "friendly little coffee shop" for the back with the toad draped over it. That was nicely laid out ... but can live without it, especially if that reduces production costs. I'd be in for one short sleeve and one long sleeve ... both 2XL, because I like a roomy shirt. I'm fine for no-pocket. It's not like I have to have a place to carry Hollerith cards anymore. |
|
You missed an "e" in the first "coffee."
Otherwise, awesome. How does it show up on black, though? |
|
I would definitely buy a coffee mug.
|
Oh, and I miss the typewriters, man ... I think that they are very important to the overall design, because the visual allusion is lost without them.
No, I can't do better myself. I don't have the patience, or the software for doing the design stuff. You are doing a brilliant job. I'll just drive from my backseat here, yah? |

i cant make the typwriter go with that layout. too cluttery
|
You're forgiven. It's Very Cool.
|
i'm not into t-shirts, but i would love to buy a coffee mug!
|
I like it. xxl black, long and short sleeve for me
|
I like OC's final design for the long sleeve shirt. as long as it is in black, I am in for one of those. I dont know if the sizes are m or f, so when I know, I will give you a size. Probably large.
For the short sleeve, I think it would be neat if we used a ringer T. I like to wear those anyway, and would consider buying a couple extras of those. Again, I am not a fan of white, and I do like the last logo Lumberjim made. I may get ambitious today and try and come up with something. |
I had to look up what a "ringer tee" was.
Ick. I thought we got rid of those in the 70s. Nerdier than a horizontally thinly striped shirt. Also, they seem only to come in white. |
pricing update
I got a hold of the local guy i mentioned earlier, and his pricing is much more competetive.
minimum 36 pcs per design( to avoid the set up charges.) black 100% cotton short sleeve T shirt with single or 2 color logo on the front only = $6/ea. XXL & up add $1.50 Long sleeve add $1.00 Add $1 for front AND back 1-2 color printing. this makes the total for a XXL long sleeve black T $9.50 each as opposed to $14 something. he could do sweatshirts for around $12. this all assumes the design is relatively basic, and he won't charge us for screening, or art work. if we order by 4/1, it should only take 2-3 wks for production. what does everyone want to do with respect to the sleeve length and logo design? or do you just want the fucking shirts already, and don't really care about designing them? |
I know another guy
who does vinyl car decals. he made me 3 "authorized vehicle" placards for when i want to make a U-Turn on the turnpike..... it's not what you know, it's WHO you know.

Orange County Choppers made a million bucks on tee shirts last year.:)
|

Everyone should be very glad to learn that I don't bowl.
One short sleeve tee, one long ... I'd prefer black, but if the logo design ultimately chosen doesn't work, gray (but not that speckly gray) is cool. Just not white ... or yellow. Doesn't go at ALL with my complexion. |

Doesn't go at ALL with my complexion. Never mind your complexion.Lets get to whats REALLY important. How do these colors contrast with your guns and swords? |
Yellow makes it very hard to sneak around at night.
Okay. That's the real reason. (enough of my firearms are in "basic black" which pretty much goes with everything ...) |

does anyone want any other logos considered? i think there is enough interest to begin ordering...assuming we are settled on the design. if you've been working on an idea, get it up here so we can make a final decision.
maybe we could have a logo design thread, if needed. |
