With the Trinity you get three, three, three gods in one. What a deal!

I've always said whatever floats your boat. At some points in my life I think I prayed to the Great Pumpkin

The Security Council Court finds there was no quid pro quo, orders a stay of seizing control, and remands the petitioner to Clodfobble.

Meh. For one thing, it happened over 7 years ago. For another, it's not as if he said, "the moon reflects the sun" and people randomly started booing. He said, "here's a passage from the Bible, but of course we know it's wrong." He was deliberately antagonizing, and got the reaction he was hoping for. Why else bring up the Bible at all during a science lecture?

Nirvana 11-03-2013 04:15 PM

Aside from the tongue in cheek in this thread, the rest is kinda scary. I should clarify that the comments in my link are scary. I knew the story was old but someone posted it on FB with all their pro and con comments which were also scary

Why else bring up the Bible at all during a science lecture?

The bible speaks of musical instruments like "flutes" wood winds like "obo's" are my fav.. I imagine with all that alchemy there has to be a few scientific achievements that the bible can take credit for... like the fall of man and the rise of apes?? jkcnotfny also I think there is one thing that the bible can take credit for that none other can and that is absolute truth if your science doesn't match up to Hebrew scripture then you are absolutely wrong... people through out history have tried to "align" with the bible to there own accord.. many have met there doom because they lie about the bible and with the bible being absolute truth it just dose not mix..

sexobon 11-03-2013 08:36 PM

Then how come it was called "Bible" which contains the letters L-I-E?

Nirvana 11-03-2013 10:16 PM

Bill Nye made this comment"Genesis 1:16, which reads: "God made two great lights -- the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars."

"The lesser light, he pointed out, is not a light at all, but only a reflector"
>this pissed off people.

One person commented below the article; "The Hebrew word for light in Genesis 1:16 is "ma'owr" which means luminous, this applies to radiating OR reflecting light. So Genesis 1:16 is factually, scientifically, and theologically correct."

The point here is that people like to argue simply for arguments sake.

Received on Nov 2..

Don't let Congress "shutdown" the effort to fix Medicare!
Dear Jason,

Now that Congress has finally moved beyond the 16-day government shutdown and debt ceiling debate, a limited number of days remain on the legislative calendar for lawmakers to repeal Medicare's sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula.

Repeal is needed this year to end the ongoing threat of payment cuts that will impact a patients' choice of physician and access to the care that they need. Reform is needed to transform Medicare into an effective, 21st century model of care for patients.

We know partisanship isn't going away in Washington, D.C., but that doesn't mean legislation has stalled or that problems can't be solved. This week the Senate Finance Committee and the House Ways & Means Committee announced a joint framework that would repeal the SGR and move towards Medicare reform. Significant policy details and refinements remain unresolved, but the committee work and communication between lawmakers and patients must continue if repeal of the SGR is to occur this year.

Keep the pressure on Congress!

You can send an email to your representative and senators or place a phone call today via our toll-free grassroots hotline at (888) 434-6200.

Urge lawmakers to continue working in a bipartisan manner and tell them to elevate repeal of the flawed Medicare SGR formula to the top of their priority list of unfinished legislative items that must be passed in 2013.

Be sure to visit FixMedicareNow.org for the latest information and resources on the AMA's campaign to engage physicians, patients and policymakers in the effort to repeal the flawed Medicare SGR formula and achieve reform that will transform Medicare into an effective, 21st century model of care.

Wait a sec ... When did that happen again? One party is pretty united against the other and the other is horribly fractured. "continue"?

Woodburne 1947 Plane Talk

A long trip in an airplane is an interesting experience and it is startlingly awe inspiring when clouds have shut out the sun to be lifted up in a few minutes into the warmth and beauty of clear sunshine. Or when looking down from cloudless skies, the river and roads farms field's and forest blend into one colossal mosaic with varying shades of greens, browns, and yellows; while highways and streams become ribbons of silver and grey. It is as if some gigantic window of stained glass from a celestial cathedral were laid over the face of the earth. And all dirt is dispelled by distance.

Such thrilling delight and comfort while sor-ing aloft is made possible only by a thorough and adjustment to laws of aerodynamics. The mighty surge of power that enables a plane of many tons to "float the air with the greatest of ease "is possible only by rigid adherence to definite fixed principles"

It surely is not an over simplification to say that a similar adherence to known laws in social and spiritual relations of man would supply a resurgent by which to "mount up with wings as an eagle" to loftier levels of life and conduct and character. Obedience to the laws in the spiritual relations of man would is the only way to out distance feuds and hates and ugliness of action, and by which man kind can overtake clear-sighted understandings of other men of other faiths and other colors and other standards of living.

We trust our lives to the will and skill of the airline pilot. He is usually hidden from view away out in front guiding the traveler to his destination. So too there is a Great Invisible Pilot away out in front to take the controls and guide us in the spiritual sphere to our journeys end. From a plane st night over a great city, it's myriad electric lights seem similar to a star-studded sky underneath. So in life's dark hours the child of God is under-girded with a galaxy of golden texts that glisten and glow and gladed the spirit. Dose all this seem fanciful and fantastic? Well they said that about men flying not long ago.

"The People's Party"

We the people of the United States have found that our Government No Longer Represents our Beliefs in the Way we should be Governed. Therefore in an attempt to Save the Little History We do Have and Repent before we find ourselves living in a world where we are slaves. We resolve to reform our government through restoration. We choose to restore family values as well as a peaceful process of governing. Though we do not and probly will never will fully know how to do this. We believe in the ability of The Lords absolute Power to Govern His People, and since we are created in his image we feel we have the power to govern ourselves. Further more we resolve that this People's Party will be established with it's own set of Godly Principle's that will constantly be changed by the people when its necessary.

As for the second notion, the idea that we could lose our freedom by succumbing to a wave of religious hysteria, I am sorry to say that I consider it possible. I hope that it is not probable. But there is a latent deep strain of religious fanaticism in this, our culture; it is rooted in our history and it has broken out many times in the past. It is with us now; there has been a sharp rise in strongly evangelical sects in this country in recent years, some of which hold beliefs theocratic in the extreme, anti-intellectual, anti-scientific, and anti-libertarian.

It is a truism that almost any sect, cult, or religion will legislate its creed into law if it acquires the political power to do so, and will follow it by suppressing opposition, subverting all education to seize early the minds of the young, and by killing, locking up, or driving underground all heretics. This is equally true whether the faith is Communism or Holy-Rollerism; indeed it is the bounden duty of the faithful to do so. The custodians of the True Faith cannot logically admit tolerance of heresy to be a virtue.

Nevertheless this business of legislating religious beliefs into law has never been more than sporadically successful in this country – Sunday closing laws here and there, birth control legislation in spots, the Prohibition experiment, temporary enclaves of theocracy such as Voliva’s Zion, Smith’s Nauvoo, a few others. The country is split up into such a variety of faiths and sects that a degree of uneasy tolerance now exists from expedient compromise; the minorities constitute a majority of opposition against each other.

Could it be otherwise here? Could any one sect obtain a working majority at the polls and take over the country? Perhaps not – but a combination of a dynamic evangelist, television, enough money, and modern techniques of advertising and propaganda might make Billy Sunday’s efforts look like a corner store compared to Sears Roebuck. Throw in a depression for good measure, promise a material heaven here on earth, add a dash of anti-Semitism, anti-Catholicism, anti-Negroism, and a good large dose of anti-“furriners” in general and anti-intellectuals here at home and the result might be something quite frightening – particularly when one recalls that our voting system is such that a minority distributed as pluralities in enough states can constitute a working majority in Washington.
