Maybe it was cold? Maybe he had been in the pool...

What pool? The one in Fukushima?

skysidhe 04-22-2011 08:00 AM

No grav, that's not why I thought it was funny.

Symbolism, not the actual part of the anatomy south of the navel.

If I gots to explain...neber mind.

There is no subtext. At least not in America.

Next you'll be telling us that there is something nasty in Mairzy Doats. Or the amount of wood chuckable by a woodchuck. Or Louie, Louie.

Don't even mention sitting under the apple tree with anyone else but me!

DanaC 04-22-2011 09:02 AM

Yeah. Fraid it has far less innocent connotations over here :p

Now: do any of your charming nursery rhymes have a character called Coolie?

Wow. Where d'ya start with that?

Awesome find man.

Griff 04-22-2011 09:28 AM

It is amazing what passed as good entertainment as recently as my childhood. Strange blindspots. My FiL is a huge jazz fan, great respect for black musicians but now and then he'll pull out a slab of vinyl like that and cause a giant quiet wtf? moment. I think we're getting better... sometimes.

monster 04-22-2011 09:36 AM

OMG my grandma used to sing that, I had forgotten it completely. Another one about pulling a toe and a tiger..... clearly I've blanked them out....

monster 04-22-2011 09:37 AM

Oh it was a "dipping rhyme" eenie meany miney mo catch a tiger by the toe.

It didn't used to be a tiger........

Griff 04-22-2011 09:40 AM

Yeah, I almost forgot to say tiger in my classroom one time.

infinite monkey 04-22-2011 09:41 AM

Did it holler? Did you let it go?

I never heard the OTHER word in it until years after I'd heard "tiger."

monster 04-22-2011 09:44 AM

I had totally forgotten about that. My laughter frightened my son, btw griff, thanks. Just spent five minutes explaining how recently in the scheme of things it was that stuff like this got cleaned up.

Didn't that song become 10 little Indians for a while? I wonder what it is now?

DanaC 04-22-2011 09:52 AM

I remember it as ten little Indians.

dot or feather?

what?

//yes, single seat please, one-way, non-smoking ....what do you mean all seats are smoking?

DanaC 04-22-2011 10:45 AM

Do you recall a schoolyard rhyme, with actions that went something like this:

Chinese,
Japanese
Siamese
Dirty Knees

I also remember a jigsaw puzzle my gran gave me when I was very little which featured various nations of the Commonwealth in their national dress. I was always fascinated by the one with the neckrings. Burma? Something like that.

At least....I think it was commonwealth nations...might have just been a racist depiction of various non-euro peoples.

infinite monkey 04-22-2011 10:49 AM

No, but I remember:

Me chinese
Me play joke
Me go pee-pee in your coke

DanaC 04-22-2011 10:50 AM

Oh God! I remember that one too!

pulling the sides of the eyes? vaguely. God I'm old. Today in the school yards they just take words like rape and repurpose them.....

You missed out the last line, which was "and what are these?" where you cupped non-existant breasts. Racist and sexist, ding ding!

DanaC 04-22-2011 06:39 PM

lol so I did. I'd forgotten that.
