plthijinx 01-21-2011 11:01 PM

ty all guys. and tw actually they most likely will be keeping those two guys. they want me to start out in the houston office checking panel layouts and wire continuity as well as marking up panel layout, schematics and wiring diagram drawings for the cad drafters. when/if they get the job from the proposal they sent out today then i will be going to the field office shop in either PA or Denver overlooking the panels being built there. that would be a long term assignment.

i'm still at work (at the track). i'm freakin tired and still have 2.5 hours to go.

DanaC 01-22-2011 11:52 AM

Awesome Plthijinx! Really awesome.

plthijinx 01-23-2011 03:31 AM

ty dana!

plthijinx 01-24-2011 07:39 PM

i'm nervous. really nervous. i called larry today, my ex-coworker and old hunting buddy. just to put out feelers. if he dropped the dime on me to get the job i surely won't get hired. came up negative on the phone call with him but don't know. you see we don't talk that much anymore and i can totally see him dropping said dime to secure a job for himself. late in the convo i asked him how the interview went even though he didn't mention it, specifically. now yes, the interviewing engineer said i got the job but it's been two business days and i haven't heard of a start date yet. maybe i'm just paranoid. i don't know. i won't believe that i have this job until i walk in the office on the clock.

plthijinx 01-24-2011 07:40 PM

there's more though. will finish post later. have to run.....

plthijinx 01-25-2011 08:36 PM

i think, hope i'm just paranoid. but damn. i hate down time waiting.

TheMercenary 01-25-2011 09:02 PM

Great thread plthijinx! Good stuff man!

Tulip 01-26-2011 10:50 AM

You're still waiting on the start date, plthjinx?

Oh thank fuck for that. Good stuff Plthijinx. Bit worrying for a while. The 3 bucks an hour is a bit of a kick, but asyou say, that's not necessarily a static figure. Either way it's a step back into the industry.

Makes me wonder though, if that other guy you spoke of did try to dump your history in and instead of it getting him the job, it just made you slightly more of a risk and hence the $3/hr cut? If that's the case, and that was their response, then they sound like pretty decent employers to me.

Griff 01-27-2011 05:29 AM

Congrats! You'll get the other 3 bucks in time.

zippyt 01-27-2011 08:11 AM

YEEEAAHH !!!

$3 ?? drink Bud instead of Heineken for a while

skysidhe 01-27-2011 08:35 AM

congrats plthi!!!

kerosene 01-27-2011 02:06 PM

Great! Congratulations, plt! 3 bucks is not too big a deal when you are going from working at the track to engineering. When do you start, then?

It's Helen Keller. I liked it too. It is to remind me that complacency is somewhere in the middle.

Here are more quotes from her you might like.

@ plt. I agree with kerosene.

Off topic question. Do YOU use much calculus in engineering?

drfroth 01-27-2011 02:52 PM

Way to go bro... surprised I had to read about it here rather than getting a text from you...

Oh well... great news all the same. I guess you will no longer be in danger of getting plowed by the little bastards at work.

I heard they were going to replace you with a wheelchair bound midget with only one arm to increase productivity in the pit...hahaha.

Just kidding. You will be missed. Good luck with the new gig.

plthijinx 01-27-2011 08:50 PM

:lol2: froth? the midget, if he has my radio quality voice, can do the job! just put him on the mic. i will miss this job. but i won't be quitting quite yet. i will work both jobs for about a month or so. at least until i catch up on debts. after that....i will be able to come watch your bands' gigs! i'm super excited about that!

@sky, no not really. well i personally never have. i'm electrical so there's really no use for it. we have charts and tables and spreadsheets to figure out what's needed. be it cable size, wire size, conduit fill, cable tray fill....the list goes on....

at kero and all....still waiting on the date. i thought i was going to start last monday but my job shop and the firm are in contract negotiations so that's why i'm kinda up in the air. the email though i received yesterday confirmed that i do indeed have the job.

Clodfobble 01-27-2011 10:22 PM

Awesome! Way to go plthijinx!

plthijinx 01-27-2011 10:25 PM

ty tyvm!

kerosene 01-28-2011 11:58 AM

Very happy for you

plthijinx 02-03-2011 03:53 PM

i have to say that as of lately, waiting to start this job been real nervous at to why i haven't been called in. it's as i thought, waiting on a job proposal. the following is an e-mail i just now received:

Fred here is what David respond to me just few minutes ago so just hold on.

I am still interested in Plthijinx – the holdup is the big project with the Army Corps of Engineers has not been awarded as promised – we are now told it will be Feb 7.

TheMercenary 02-03-2011 04:28 PM

Congrats mate! Well done!

SO when and were are you moving for the job?

zippyt 02-03-2011 04:36 PM

Damn Gubment !!! ;)

plthijinx 02-03-2011 05:39 PM

@merc - that remains to be seen. i would like denver because it's closer to home and i can make the flight myself to come see my son when i can and be on my own schedule and not the carriers. also i've been there before so it's a little more familiar. closest i've ever been to PA is over it on the way home from europe when i used to travel there every year. but really i don't care. where ever the job sends me i'm going to give it my 120%. period.

zippyt 02-03-2011 05:50 PM

zippyt 02-03-2011 05:52 PM

Right on mate, more people would be employed if they took that attitude.

plthijinx 02-03-2011 07:11 PM

true dat.

plthijinx 02-09-2011 11:01 AM

up and down on the emotions today....an email from my future employer:

Fred:

I just receive e-mail from David, He still interest to get you to work, but here is what he say:
he will let me know as soon as then get the jobs they are working to get POs, but yes you will be the one, also he say he will not be interest to hire you direct for now, so you will be working for ZA, and he will let me know as soon as the get the PO.s so lest keep in touch.

ZA

glatt 02-09-2011 11:04 AM

Jeez, Louise. They keep stringing you along. I'm sure you'll get it, but man that sucks.

plthijinx 02-09-2011 11:09 AM

yeah it is sorta painful. i'm not sure which is longer.....the time it took to at least get a job back in engineering or the wait time to start this job. seems like an eternity. but i am well versed in waiting that's for sure.

TheMercenary 02-09-2011 12:31 PM

Sorry to hear that man. The email sounds vague. I would ask them to clarify and see if you can get some round about dates....

plthijinx 02-09-2011 11:10 PM

that would be nice merc but who the hell knows. at this point i'm considering myself lucky to even be considered for a 50k plus a year job.

plthijinx 02-23-2011 06:30 PM

well, i just got off the phone with ZA and then sent an email to the hiring engineer. still waiting to find out if the firm got the contract or not. in the convo i had with ZA i asked him if he needs a wireman or someone to do panel checkouts. he said he could use me but the position doesn;t pay what engineering does. i said it didn;t matter, it;s a job and it;s money. we are going to talk about it tomorrow. that job is contingent on the engineering job and whether or not they got the contract. in fact, the engineers from the firm are going to ZA;s shop tomorrow to check out some panels he;s been building for them. so we;ll see........

plthijinx 02-23-2011 06:40 PM

1 Attachment(s)
oh and either way, getting back into whatever form of engineering is a plus. ZA;s shop is clear across town as well. brittmoore and the W. beltway off of I-10. not that any of you know where that is....but to put it in retrospect.....

Clodfobble 02-23-2011 06:41 PM

Shit, dude... in traffic? Better invest in some audio books.

plthijinx 02-23-2011 06:49 PM

right....but the buzz does pretty good :)

Tulip 02-24-2011 02:11 PM

Damn, you live all the way down there? Half of your paycheck will go into gas money. And Clod's right, you're gonna be in major traffic, both on 45 and I-10. By the way, (not an invitation to stalkers:p:) I live right there in Spring Valley. ;)

classicman 02-24-2011 09:20 PM

Is the Sam Houston Tollway a better route?

Clodfobble 02-24-2011 10:14 PM

In Houston, there are no better routes, anywhere. People usually choose their neighborhood based on where they work.

Tulip 02-24-2011 10:21 PM

True...true. A friend bought a house down in Pearland cuz it's nearer to his and his wife's work place.

yeah, well if i leave early enough i can glide right on through. there are 3 ways to get there and back. 45 to I-10, 45 610 I-10, or 45 and the belt. yeah classic man, the belt would work. it's an easy 15 bucks round trip in gas plus more in tolls if i take the sam houston. hell that's what i pay now a day when i work at the track. i take 45 to 610 to eastex freeway. the track is almost to the north belt so if you look at the map you can kinda interpolate the drive.

oh and tulip, i start working on that side of town? lunch is on me. how;s pappadeaux's or pappasitos? i especially love the hole in the wall mom and pop type restaurants though....i miss that side of town.

richlevy 02-26-2011 08:14 AM

Congratulations. May your cubicle be forever spacious and your task chair never squeak.

plthijinx 02-26-2011 10:24 AM

damn. phone call from ZA this morning. the firm did not get the denver contract. however i will work for ZA wiring panels on a part time basis. he said we;d talk more later.

Clodfobble 02-26-2011 10:27 AM

Dang. Keep your chin up, Fred. You'll make it in the end.

monster 02-26-2011 05:40 PM

bummer

plthijinx 02-28-2011 02:30 PM

well now. here is something else. ZA called me about an hour ago. he has another job interview for me. this one is testing panels to make sure they are wired correctly. 6 more bucks an hour than i make now but like i have said before (maybe not here) no job is above or below me. whatever is asked of me i will give it my all and then some. anyway, he will be calling me back with more details.

kerosene 02-28-2011 02:50 PM

Well, it is a bummer about the contract, especially since I don't get to go have lunch with you in Denver! I am glad you have this other one in the works, though. Keep at it, man. You will get there.

plthijinx 02-28-2011 05:42 PM

I'M GOING TO WORK TOMORROW!!! HAHAAAAAAAAAAA! FUCKIN' SWEEEEEET!

ZA called me just now and wants me in the shop to take care of a customer because he is going to be in and out all day. don;t know my whole objective but it;s work in my field!!! fuckin' A!!

monster 02-28-2011 06:04 PM
