Hmm. Good point on the cotton balls. Think I'll use your idea of the fur-fabric tail. Thanks for the save!

Sundae 10-17-2008 08:33 AM

I'm going to dress up this year!

After year after year of saying to myself, "This is the last Halloween I let go by without properly celebrating" (ditto Valentines Day) I am going to an all night cinema special.

The dress code is simpy "Halloween", which in this country means horror, not fancy dress (costume in America I think). Looking for goth style clothes second hand on eBay. Have skirt and boots that will suit if I can get a goth-style top. Will wear a black wig and teeth, so it will all be done pretty cheaply.

BUT I DON'T CARE!
It's Halloween and I'm doing something! And other people will be there! And I will be dressed up!

(can you tell I'm excited?)

xoxoxoBruce 10-17-2008 10:44 AM

Go for it, SG. Do you have second hand or "thrift" clothing stores, where you might find a goth top?

Sundae 10-17-2008 10:49 AM

Not in my size :(

But eBay does just as well - especially as you can sort by size rather than spending hours and money on buses for places that don't stock anything above a size 12...

ETA - just wanted to add - I'm not buying anything above charity shop prices!

Yeah, I guess transportation is an issue. It's a shame though because the thrift shops have some outrageous shit that probably nobody would try to sell on ebay. Although, I don't shop ebay so they might. Hope you find something cool. :thumb:

Sundae 10-18-2008 02:46 PM

Have decided no new clothes.
Instead I've spent less money to far greater effect on accessories.

Wig, teeth and fake blood all ordered, come to less than £10 including postage. In my mind I'm a vampire. However if you count it as a costume rather than fancy dress, I'm going as a fat goth :)

Very excited about this. Am probably going to be a bit annoying about it.
Already trying to work out - if I stay up late on Tuesday & Weds I'll go to bed early on Thurs and ask if I can come in an hour late Fri, so have a lie-in and be able to stay up all night easily...

I'm such a kid.
In fact I've already got a semi-serious deal with my boss where she pays my entrance fee to things and I take her daughter. First on the list being the country's best amusement park (Alton Towers) which C has been begging to go to for years...

Shame I can't take her to this - but then she is only 13 :)

Cicero 10-18-2008 03:14 PM

Aaah. I'll just be celebrating days of the dead..... Or I'll just walk around the house as, "the economy" too.

Just being curious, maybe monster can help here...but it looks like you're using a different interpretation of "fancy dress" and "costume" to what I'm used to...

"Fancy dress" to me would be like, prom dinner...and "costume" is um...dressing up as someone/something you're not...for a special occasion (like halloween)

monster 10-19-2008 10:11 PM

fancy dress (brit) = costume (US)

fancy dress (US) = Done up like a dog's dinner (Brit)

classicman 10-19-2008 10:41 PM

Hey Razz - loks like you are wearing the top of the lantern as a hat in that group pic - just sayin.

Sundae 10-20-2008 04:05 AM

Sorry, I did try to specify, but obviously wasn't clear.
Anyway like I say, our Halloween is all about dressing up spookily. If I turned up as a superhero or a celbrity I would get some funny looks. In fact travelling on my own on the Tube (especially at 07.00 the next morning) I'll get some funny looks anyway.

I don't care. I'm celebrating Halloween!
In fact... No, I'll put it in the Happy thread.

Razzmatazz13 10-20-2008 11:43 PM

classic:

you are not the first person to say that

and the NEXT person to say that, will be punched in the face (and/or kicked in the cunt)

that is all.

I mean seriously people, I look smokin in that dress, it shows off every curve I have, and yet all you can comment on is the damn lantern? My boyfriend's wearing a superman belt buckle, but does THAT bother you people? No, it's the lantern.

classicman 10-21-2008 12:02 AM

I didn't even notice you boyfriend because I was so captivated by your beauty. Now that I look again there is another couple in the pic too. Who the hell are they and where did they come from? Srsly, photoshop that thin out - cuz you do look very nice, but that goes without saying.

that better?

classicman 10-21-2008 12:03 AM

Oh and for FSM sake - feed that guy on your right!

Razzmatazz13 10-21-2008 12:09 AM

razz, i took the liberty of photoshopping the hat out of that picture for you so you don't look so silly.

Ibby 10-23-2008 12:00 AM

im going to put this sort of, clear sticky band-aid tape stuff all over my face, which gives it this terrible wrinkly texture... then im going to stagger around all day, and when someone goes, oh, are you a zombie? i respond, no, of course not, i'm keith richards.

Cicero 10-24-2008 05:51 PM

Oooh someone made the mistake of inviting me to a day of the dead party!

Awesome. So I guess I won't be alone in my freaky-altar-dancing around-dom.

Woo-hoo!

On the invite it says I can bring an offering for the altar, too. It helps when you know you aren't the only freak in town.

jinx 10-24-2008 07:07 PM

Do you have the sugar skulls in all the stores down there? I love them but never see them around here.... maybe in the city.

Sundae 10-24-2008 07:14 PM

Wow - those are cool!

Oh yea jinxer. All over. I usually buy the figurines so I can keep them though. :)

This one is supposed to be me at a typewriter. (You are supposed to get ones that feature something about a dead loved one's personailty) So naturally, when I finally found one with a typewriter I had to buy it. There was also one sitting behind a computer..It was such a toss. But I had been looking for the typrewriter figurine, so I had to get it. :D

I look forward to it!
All I can show you is pictures of me. And you'll get those alright.

Cicero 10-25-2008 04:35 PM

Ok, another Halloween surprise just happened (I had nothing planned outside of my, at home, days of the dead celebrations)!

A little Halloween wish came true! I perused the local rag, and an unknown band I like is coming through in time for Halloween! The great part is, when I bought their album, I thought how cool it would be to see them live around Halloween. At the time it was a random thought and virtually impossible, but, here they are! Playing here in santa fe right before halloween! Awesome! Odd wish comes true in random shuffle of the deck.....

Heh, old halloween wish comes true. :) I wanted to listen to "skeleton man" live during Halloween, odd wish, but wow, it's going to happen. I am as pleased as punch. :)

Sundae 10-25-2008 04:59 PM

It's wonderful when coincidence catches up with you.

HM and I were talking about which band we would give anything to see, and I mentioned Crowded House (to his groans). It was about a week later that I found out they were even touring the UK and were sold out in London - but had just announced an extra date for which tickets were available. In fact that too was a sellout, and if HM hadn't bought tickets for me that night, I'd have missed them again.

For the record, I paid him back by buying him a ticket to see Derren Brown this year.

I didn't bother with the foundation, but I will have a full make up rehearsal once I get my wig.

I just wanted to point out that I ran into said, unknown band yesterday at work!! :D Heh. It's really funny how the world works sometimes.
Wow! What a world!!! One little wish went uuuh, pretty far. I wonder why I haven't won the lottery with that insane luck?
Oh well. The Halloween wish came true and multiplied. Cool.

The makeup looks good Sundae. Are you going to use theater make-up for the base? I know there is special stuff for that, though I have forgotten now what it is called.

Cheers!
I'm just using a pale foundation. I have to blend my foundation anyway, being pale but florid. So this one is a leftover from last winter. I'm trying to be good on the spending front.

In fact I might have a proper Halloween dress now :) It's on loan to me. Haven't got it yet and after all it might not fit/ suit me, but I'm not letting that stop me getting excited.

Cicero 10-27-2008 02:53 PM

Well you should wear a black boustee. And skirt. Rowr! ;)

Sundae 10-27-2008 03:18 PM

Bustier?
Well if the dress doesn't work out I'll be wearing my corset and a Mrs Lovatt style skirt. And that's more than enough flesh on display, even if it is supposed to be a night for horror.

Cicero 10-27-2008 03:22 PM

yep. Just like that. :) I can't even spell it, much less wear one. You should do it just because others, like me, can't.

monster 10-27-2008 09:07 PM

SG, your make-up looks very pretty and incredibly neatly applied, but if you're going for goth, as a former make-up-wearing goth type, please don't be offended when I say I can hardly see any eye make-up there.

you need waaaay more eyeshadow. and more liner. still neatly applied, though -racoon eyes is not sexy. you need that darker shadow almost all the way up to the eyebrows (which should be blackened a little more), then blended with the lighter, more sparly stuff. You should extend the black eyeliner out horizontally until it's below the end of the eyebrow, put a little of the darker shadow above it and blend then a little, then the lighter color above that, up to they eyebrows blending with the darker as you go.

To go further, you can dust a thin line of the dark shadow underneath the eyeliner on your lower lid, and then a little of the lighter sparkly beneath that.

Cicero 10-27-2008 09:10 PM

Liquid Liner. I know because I have looked scary my whole life. In fact, I was walking by a halloween shop the other day, and someone said to the person with them..."It doesn't get scarier than that". :(

monster 10-27-2008 09:24 PM

Liquid liner is teh suxor. pencil belnds much better and is much more flexible in application. liquid liner is more clockwork orange/cabaret type scary.

Cicero 10-27-2008 10:02 PM

Liquid Liner. For bold contrast.

monster 10-27-2008 10:51 PM

bold contrast leads to raccoon eyes teenage shit

monster 10-27-2008 10:51 PM

just sayin'

;)

monster 10-27-2008 10:54 PM

I would do an eye to demo now, but I'm way too drunk and tired at this point (yes it's Monday, sometimes you need to drink on a monday)

Clodfobble 10-27-2008 10:57 PM

Woo! The paint has dried on the last item, which means I'm officially done with all three costumes! (Cute as it would be, the baby doesn't get a costume because she's just going to be sitting in the stroller and no one will see her anyway.) Here's hoping Minifob is no longer sick by the time Friday rolls around.

Point taken Monster.
I'll do another rehearsal and bear that in mind. I do think it will look a lot more dramatic on pale skin though.

Just for the record - with make-up and without make up.

Cicero 10-28-2008 10:22 AM

Liquid Liner wins!! :)
Now where are all the photos of monsters costumes?

Well done Laurie & son!

Now. Back to me.
Close up of eyes taken tonight.
I have to work on the fact that I get red glitter on my cheeks when I apply it to my eyes, but I can just hold a tissue over my face next time.

Obviously the difference in my lids gives two different perspectives.
