Over at AudioGalaxy, where "clone threads" work better because it is a "scroll type" board and the threads are seen right next to each other, someone posted the thread:

Good to see Democrats moving back to the center

...so I posted the thread:

God to see Democrats moving back to the sinners

...which is structurally almost identical to the original thread, and has a self-contained meaning which is a satire of the original thread. To me, that is a properly executed clone thread, because of the close resemblance to the original, and because the minor alterations produce an entirely different meaning. Also, I feel that the first post in a "clone thread" should simply be a link back to the original, and no additional content.

Criky, Tin man, nobody was bashing the Brits. You weren't following (or comprehending) the previous three posts to that reference. Besides it was made by a canadian, to boot.:chill:

Tin Man 09-07-2006 05:43 AM

Sorry xoxoxobruce, my sincerest apologies. You're quite correct. I failed to check the nationality of thrillhouse and speed read my way through the prior posts. Unfortunately, I'm using my Mac at work when I'm in the Cellar and have to dodge my boss when doing so which sometimes means I don't pay full attention to what I'm reading.

But, before reading those posts I had been on some other threads where I'd come across a couple of genuine sarcastic swipes at us Brits and my dander was up. Third time round it was a case of what you call 'three strikes and you're out' moment.

Besides, I thought the smiley, and the fact my riposte was so obviously crass and stereotypical of insults aimed at Americans, gave a clue that I wasn't being too overly sensitive about the comment. Friends?:hugnkiss:

why is this thread "back" ???

(It was Ibram AKA "Arnold Corns" by the way, in case you didn't know)

Darling, you should hear what the (other) Brits say about us! It would make your hair curl!

But, still, friends. :)

or...do you mean friends with benefits, like this: :doit:

capnhowdy 09-07-2006 03:20 PM

Careful, Brianna.... He's a Brit!

just joking.

Ibby 09-07-2006 10:12 PM

Yes, I knew it was me. And I still stand by Arnold Corns and David Bowie not being the same answer, as I asked for the BAND not the SINGER.

Oooh, Brianna, you naughty Dirty Pirate Hooker, you! You can sit on my gangplank anytime!

And, capnhowdy, our British upper lip is not the only thing that's stiff!

Seriously tho, with the anniversary of 9/11 coming up I would like to express my heartfelt condolences and sympathy to all those affected by that horrific event. Since then we Brits have had 7/7 and still the madness and killing goes on. Let's hope we the people can bring some sanity to this world of pain because our leaders (hah!), of which ever side, seem incapable and incompetent at doing anything to resolve it.

Stay healthy, stay safe, stay sane.

Methinks there's a mainbrace that needs splicing here, meheartis! But the Pond is too wide! Where's a galleon ship when you need one?:sniff:

The Man of Tin's profile proclaimeth that he is fond of the Sci that is Fi and toils daily at graphic design. Wouldest the Tin Man indeed be part and parcel of the tribe known as Nerd? For nerds are Lady (Madame?) Brianna's specialty.

Spexxvet 09-08-2006 07:37 AM

*waves hand* I'm a nerd, I'm a nerd!

Don't I know it. ;)

Tin Man 09-08-2006 07:48 AM

Verily milady perceiveth my nature. Truly I am from the Kingdom of Nerdus, broad is mine vision of interests, Tin Man the Eclectic wouldst be a truer naming. From Sea to Star and from Sex to Sounds do I travel with mind and body, and thou spake with clear sight earlier, for my hair is curlier. :)

Trilby 09-08-2006 07:54 AM

Lady Brianna's Intuition never fails her! (excepteth for that oneth time with the Sheriff of Nottingham...oh, let's not speak of it!)

My lord, I am wanted at the Palace of Expensive Knowledge and must flee lest my schoolmaster spank me for insolent tardiness (which, trueth be known, my wicked heart delights in) but keepeth thy thoughts upon the Sounds of Sex and my lord's day shall be the happier for it and his heart lighter. Good morrow!

Tin Man 09-08-2006 08:02 AM

Fare thee well, Brianna (beautiful name, it rolls sensually over my tongue!), I too must depart for my work day endeth. But the vision of you spanked burns into my minds eye and forever will stay there (or at least for the weekend!). I have mountains to climb on the morn (an image of my likeness in my profile shows myself in the Land of Lakes) and visions of Sci of the Fic come the night. Enjoy your weekend milady. .:)

AudioGalaxy was a music site that went belly up. We took in some cast-aways. Hey, when did you show up?

Undertoad 08-17-2007 06:34 AM

tin man was deleted at some point, probably by request.

AudioGalaxy was down, temporarily. AudioGalaxy had been a community-based file-trading site. You could meet people and discuss music on hundreds of message boards, or join private groups. The music was queued up through the website, but the actual file transfer took place via a separate, small-footprint application.

Somewhere around five years ago, AudioGalaxy was sued by the RIAA. The file-trading stopped, but the community carried on. The owner, Michael, moved on to other commercial projects, but he kept the domain, and kept the site reasonably maintained. He wasn't hovering around, however, to instantly remedy every server hiccup.

To this day, Michael maintains the AudioGalaxy website (for, as best as we can figure, sentimental value). To this day, there are still active message boards on AudioGalaxy.

When AudioGalaxy went down last year, SteveBsjb sent me a link to The Cellar. We launched ourselves on this board in full attention-whore mode. Which I now regret, because the backlash drove away some of the other AGers that came along with us.

Whatever the back-story is; I'm happy to be here. Mr. Undertoad is performing a great service to human culture, by allowing our unhindered meanderings to occupy this little corner of the world. One thing I still find surprising about the Cellar is that whatever you are discussing finds its way onto the first page of Google hits. For instance, Google: syncopation + "beat displacement" ...
