I know from personal experience that bruce would make an excellent DH for choosing IOTDs.

There are many areas in which I bow to Maggie's expertise. Don't diss her, even in support of me. She's been around this place longer than I have.

smoothmoniker 05-17-2006 02:32 PM

I nominate everyone from Audiogalaxy.

Elspode 05-17-2006 02:53 PM

If someone thinks I can be of some use, I'd be happy to help. If not, that's all good, too. I've moderated lists many times over the years. It isn't always a lot of fun.

That said, when is this going to start? I might not be exactly in the loop for a couple more weeks yet.

Oh, yeah...I almost forgot. I think Bruce, Wolf, BigV and Cyclefrance are obvious choices. I'd give Kagen a shot for the Southern Hemisphere.

BigV 05-17-2006 02:53 PM

V, that was a different election. I will not stand for my opponents slandering me by quoting my own written words back at me in writing. That kind of thing is just un-American.

Undertoad 05-17-2006 03:10 PM

Remember folks, this is just the nomination thread and there will be another thread for voting.

Nominees should accept or reject their nominations by saying something that I can decipher, such as "I accept this nomination" or "I reject this nomination." Just saying "Whoo-hoo!! I'm popular!!", it's not clear whether you are actually accpeting the nomination, or are just happy with life in general.

One time, on Audiogalaxy, this guy said that Bill Maher was un-American, and I said that I thought calling people un-Amercian was un-American, and he said that I couldn't call him un-American because I said that saying people are un-American was un-American, but I said I could because I was just using his own words against him, and like a whole day later we were still going around in circles (mostly me making brief, concise statements and him posting long, angry rants in response) and eventually he went into all-caps mode. So, basically I "won" because he had to resort to all-caps.

So . . . that's why I shouldn't be a moderator.

Oh, I didn't say I don't want to be a moderator. In fact, of all the things I've never said, I didn't mean that the most.

Anyone who wonders about you should just read this one post, rather than going through the other 528 of them. It gets right to the point.

Yes, that's the joke.

To get this back on track,

Undertoad, there have been a lot of suggestions about having moderators in different time zones. One in North America, one in Australia, and one in Europe. Do you have any thoughts on this?

Flint 05-17-2006 04:08 PM

This is a good idea, but remember that nocturnal or insomniac moderators can also cover different time zones.

Undertoad 05-17-2006 05:14 PM

So far the place has done well with one extremely active mod with a fiber connection who refreshes the entire board every 10 minutes and sleeps intermittently.

In the future, it will have to make do with two mods who are less active. So if coverage time is important to you, ask mods about their level of activity and responsibility, and vote accordingly.

MaggieL 05-17-2006 05:53 PM

I somehow doubt that a response time on moderation that exceeded even 24-48 hours would be a big deal. "Follow the sun" moderation coverage may be overkill.

actually, everybody who has been seconded would be great :D

Nothing But Net 05-17-2006 09:19 PM

Is being a moderator at Cellar.org something that would look good on a resume?

SteveDallas 05-17-2006 09:21 PM

I wouldn't put it. The last thing I'd want is a potential employer coming here and trying to figure out "which one of those sickos just applied for a job with us"?

Undertoad 05-17-2006 09:34 PM

Speak for yourself. I'm going to make creator of cellar.org the centerpiece of my resume.

wolf 05-18-2006 01:27 AM

I'd hire you.

Of course, I have no hiring power and no money, but I'd hire you.

My ability to access The Cellar during work varies wildly, but I tend to be online during the remainder of my waking hours (mostly the dark ones) ... unless my schedule gets flipped and then it takes me some time to catch up.

I think I gracefully accepted the nomination already, but that was PAGES earlier in this increasingly lengthy thread.

Better spelling [or typing as the case may be] would probably impress an employer more. ;)

Sounds like you're a shoo in......... unless they want someone that speaks English. :eyebrow:

marichiko 05-18-2006 09:19 PM

Hey. Kagen can speak, whales, Welsh, AND AUSSIE! Who needs English?

Kagen4o4 05-18-2006 10:42 PM

english is an overrated language anyway.

Ibby 05-18-2006 10:51 PM

I speak southern, and with the current government that's a plus... Well, its a plus as in I can understand him, though honestly I think I'd rather not.

Undertoad 05-19-2006 02:27 PM

So accepting the nomination are xoxoxoBruce, Wolf, SteveDallas, BigV and Kagen404. Any last-minute acceptances?

Is that decipherable? :::bans self:::

Undertoad 05-19-2006 02:45 PM

In order for "everyone from Audiogalaxy" to be accepted as a nomination, "everyone from Audiogalaxy" would have to accept it. Not just yourself, but everyone.

Oh ya? Well, uh, ya. Damn. You're good. Too good. Let's see here, hmmm . . .
. . . okay, that's it, I've checked with everybody and they said go ahead with it!

Undertoad 05-19-2006 02:59 PM

Well that would require a rules change. But Robert's Rules of Order specifically states that if proxy voting is to be used, that must be determined very early in the process. Otherwise, a voter can call for proxies at the last minute to effect the result. It's very strict about proxies.

Flint 05-19-2006 03:03 PM

Robert's Rules? Robert's Rules "hate freedom" . . .

SteveDallas 05-19-2006 03:11 PM

UT, Does Robert's Rules say anything about disqualification from being nominated?

Undertoad 05-19-2006 03:17 PM

No it only covers how meetings operate in general, how deliberative bodies deliberate, that sort of thing.

Happy Monkey 05-19-2006 03:21 PM

I accept if it is possible to do a good job without consistent email access. If not, then I think there's already a pretty good pool of nominees.

Flint 05-19-2006 03:21 PM

How do deliberative bodies deliberate? Deliberately.

Elspode 05-19-2006 03:24 PM

I accepted, but did admit that I would be largely unavailable to do a good job for a couple of weeks, so I should probably continue to be left off the list. There's plenty of good ones there anyway.

Undertoad 05-19-2006 03:25 PM

I really don't think you need the email prompting; one could just get away with deleting spam on reading the new posts, and still be a good mod. We're not that deluged (yet)

Undertoad 05-19-2006 03:26 PM

Sorry El, I didn't mean to miss your acceptance.

Elspode 05-19-2006 03:28 PM

No offense taken. If I wasn't going to be gone to festival/funeral for the next ten or twelve days, I'd love to participate. It was an honor to be nominated.

BigV 05-19-2006 03:32 PM

UT:

Don't take him off the ballot, I'm gonna vote for him. We can hold our breath for 12 days. Small price to pay.

seakdivers 05-19-2006 11:04 PM

I would be happy to serve as a substitute when needed.
If somebody is going to be offline for a while they could let me know and I would be happy to fill in for them.
