Its to be used when neccesary, and with specific AGer's, swiftly. I have one problem with what you've stated above. It's your generalization of AGer's. I've been at AG for 7 years now, and although I've been posting beside a lot of users for many years, I've failed to meet them all on a conversational level. Yet I have quite a few which I have communicated with since the start. AGer's are not a group of like-minded people at all. One of the reasons you got a few of the worst kinds here is because no other place would have them, or because they support a forum of their own and wish to infect any competitive sites with problems so that others will avoid and go to their creations. Now I've stated before that there are plenty of class A people at AG that are either already here or that are looking in, contemplating entry. This AGer bashing although it may seem just, is simply not, as others that respect the place enough to either watch before entering/posting to see how this place works will now be more hesitant than they should be. You should welcome each and every user that comes in here wether they be from AG or somewhere else equally. I despise more AGers than any of you, that's for sure, but also have grown attached to other AGers, and feel very privledged to have met them, as will you if you get a chance to meet them, but allow the door to be open for them. I see some have recently entered! |
Oh, and Flint is alright in my books...certainly not a jerk ...just different.

Quite the contrary. I was at AG for 4 years. Many ager's met in real life, some were married, some are great friends. We have had AGer's die and we mourn. We ask one another for advice, we cry on one anothers shoulders. We are a family. We give birth we share, our kids do something cute...we share, our children get ill...we share. You know, we lost our site. We came here and we are trying to get to know you people, Yet many of you...like yourself want to throw rocks and call names and treat us as if we are non human. How do those of you who are abusive expect human beings to react? I for one have gotten a bit tiffed but refrain from outright name calling. Granted there are some people at ag that I am glad did not come here, and I hope they don't. All sites have their "Trolls", even this one. The fact that we are taking your abuse and still trying to fit in speaks a lot about us. the fact we are still being abused speaks a lot about some of the folks here. I would post an AG Family Photo site that one of our favorite members made, but out of respect for the memory of our Karlos I will not. I don't think I could stand the thought of you people name calling and pointing out physical aspects that just "don't measure up" to your (not lumping, those in particular know who you are) elevated level of self worth. A Poem I wrote for Karlos: Come fly come fly into the sky above the blue way up high free to roam forever more no pain my sweet now you can soar say hi to those who you will see they also mean so much to me a smile i have with you to send along your journey which has no end sadly missed you will be selfish tears flow from me they trace a path where smiles live at times were there which you did give to you i give a hearty hug a kiss i send… with all my love… Bye Karlos xoxo! So who does not want to get to know one another? |

There has been many people that have left AG WAY before it ever went down. I looked into this site a couple months back but only sighed up when I saw agers Like a flock of vultures smelling of carrion bringing their crap here. :D and do I think what's his name is a jerk? I don't think my personal opinion is the important thing however obvious it is. but I sure as hell think karma is grand right about now and enjoy watching skewed ideologies getting flushed. |
skysidhe is 2owls and was on the boards for years. you are an ager. just one that very few cared for.

I remember the name 2owls. Well, I'm sorry if you didn't like me there, sky, hope things go better here. I don't remember you being good or bad or whatever on AG. I don't think you and I ever had any problems though. I never let anyone bother me, so to me there were no "bad" AG'ers.
We really may all be jerks, but we had a weird symmetry on AG. I find that people like myself, that have a bit of an inflated ego (compensating for a hidden inferiority complex) don't do well when I'm just being myself on a message board. I do like to kid around and be sarcastic, and I get along with the other "easy going" people; but, the ego thing fixates me on me. I really only am interested in my little world. When other people want to talk about my stuff, I like that. But I don't go into too many other threads. Here it's been a little different, because the topic of AG is part of MY world, so threads about AG interest me. Anyway, I'm trying to be a little more open. It's hard for me to "care" about other people's thread topics when I don't know them. Just screen-names to me. But I see that the threads do well enough, and don't need my input. So maybe I am a jerk too. I don't mean to be rude to others in the process though. I'm just a bit egocentric. I may put a more detailed biography in my profile, if people want a better picture of me. Maybe I'll post a picture too. :) |

When AG'ers first arrive, it is almost as though they are hopped up on some sort of "Internet Forum Crack" or something. However, those who have spent a few days here and done some serious reading and attempted to interact in a manner that is conducive to what The Cellar has historically been about seem to be slowly coming down off of the buzz. From my Cellar-centric point of view, this is an improvement. From the point of view of those who find The Cellar "boring" or otherwise deficient, I can only repeat this: why stay somewhere that bores you or which you dislike? There's lots of Internet forums...seek ye something more attuned to your liking. Maybe we're not being sympathetic enough to the cold turkey process. We should have set up a halfway house or something to ease the transition, I guess. I can say that I am at least starting to get a little more substance out of the AG'ers who have been here for the longest. I like the trend, anyway. |
Understand one thing.
'I' chose my friends. Most were not by my chosing although I tried to like you. I gravitate toward the smartest and funniest people. So fairly I probably am a pretentious asshole to the kind of mentality that went one there.(here)I don't want it spreading. Thus the alias. Nothing more does a bunch of mental rejects would like to do than argue with me. blah....how incredibly boring. I don't want to argue ok? And look at me now defending myself again. None, not one of my critics, you included chy, has however ever talked to me privately or gotten to know me. I don't even know you so please get out of my face. The ones that do know me are my friends. I have only two. I am good with that number. Two real life friends are better than a group of cackling hens, or degranged idiots anyday. If anyone cares, which I doubt they do, they can IM me. Ask me anything. I'll tell them my experiences of a bad story. Until you do, everyone from AG can just shut the fuk up already. I am finished with this conversation. thanks |
Dammit, my best efforts to make this thread about me have failed.
:lurker: |
you want i should start you a jerk thread of your own?
|
Well, then I'll have another thread about me which is good, but this thread will still have thwarted me. Though, your post has kept the focus on me, and I am appeased by this... for now.

Innocent deer die in forest fires. The rest are food unless they are hit by a car or die of old age.

Deer are deadly killers of human beings. Thousands die every year on our highways thanks to "Bambi". Pass me a slice of that venison, Busterb. :yum:

We have lots of deer around here. Right in the city. I think they are smarter than us drivers. We havn't hit one yet. |

Yes, the deer were here first. So were their natural predators – the wolf and the cougar. Man has eradicated the wolf from the lower 48 except for the upper Michigan penninsula. Cougars have been hunted heavily, but their population is now making something of a come back. Without their natural predators to keep the deer population in check, their numbers have sky rocketed and they present a real menace on this nation's highways. Some fun facts: The number of deer-vehicle crashes around the country continues to grow. Conover et al. (1995) estimated over 1.5 million deer-vehicle crashes occur annually in the United States. Less than 50% of these collisions are reported. For reported accidents, the estimated damage to vehicles exceeds $1.1 billion and over 1.3 million deer are killed. Romin and Bissonette (1996) estimated that the value of a deer harvested by a hunter was $1,313. Applying this estimate to the number of deer killed that occur in the United States would result in an economic opportunity loss of over $1.7 billion annually. In addition to these economic losses, deer-vehicle collisions alone result in over 29,000 human injuries and over 200 fatalities (Conover et al. 1995). And the numbers are increasing at an alarming rate. When Henry Ford was first turning out the Model T, only about 500,000 white tails were to be found in the entire U.S., according to the U.S. Biological Survey. In recent times, deer populations have increased from 29.8 million in 1994 to 32.7 million in 2001. Last year, hunters killed 7.4 million deer, drivers killed another 1.8 million, Tragically, DVCs kill more people in the U.S. than do all commercial airlines, train and bus accidents combined in a typical year. And from The Wall Street Journal: EMIGRANT, Mont.--Deercrash.com--run by the University of Wisconsin-Madison--is not recommended bedtime reading before a road trip over the river and through the woods to grandmother's house. But it is a reality check on a pullulating U.S. highway hazard. Deer-vehicle crashes in 2003 produced 367 human fatalities. Even for survivors, an encounter with a leaping stag takes a toll: The University of North Carolina's Highway Safety Research Center cites a 1995 study claiming that the property damage from such accidents that year was $1.2 billion. Deer danger on U.S. highways is reaching epidemic proportions. Take Michigan: The state has an estimated 1.75 million white-tailed deer, and when mating season rolls around, they literally take to the streets. The costs, in life and property, prompted Gov. Jennifer Granholm to declare October "Michigan Car-Deer Crash Safety Awareness Month." |
"Cougars have been hunted heavily, but their population is now making something of a come back.
Without their natural predators to keep the deer population in check, their numbers have sky rocketed and they present a real menace on this nation's highways." Yet again.....the fault of humans. The hunter kills the cougar, the hunter says: "hot diggity festus, we done gots r-selves a bunch of dat-burnt-deers tuh kill! Toss me some chaw ayand a 6-pack and lets go yonder ayand shoots us some of them thar killer deers!" |
Quote:
We can foster the protection of the cougar and re-introduce wolves, for one thing. I was nearly killed in a collision with an elk and spent two weeks in the ICU and was a year recovering from my injuries. A friend of mine in western Colorado was also seriously injured in a crash with a deer. When I lived in the small town of Nucla in western Colorado, I know of two people who were killed by highway encounters with deer. The road from Telluride to Naturita, Colorado (about 60 miles) is sheer terror to drive from 3:00 in the afternoon on. It consists of many blind curves and encounters with deer around everyone of them. I hit deer twice on this road and once did a complete 360 as a result of the collision and was almost hit by a large coal truck barreling down the road from the opposite direction. In both these incidents, the deer bounded off into the hills, apparently none the worse for wear. You bet, Festus, get on out there with your rifles and all your friends. |

Humans have only been around about 40,000 years, and maybe we've got another 5,000 years under the sun, if that. Neither humans or the deer are gonna make it, regardless of our encroachment. BTW, despite how tasty it is, now that BSE has shown up in the deer herds, I'm gonna pass on the vension. It's gettin to be regoddamdiculous. What the hell am I 'sposed to eat now? |
It is not the fault of the deer that the roads travel through their territory.
You believe deer should be killed you must also believe that when you travel where they live it is at your own risk and your choice of where you drive. Blame mankind mari, not the deer. I take not pitty either on those who hike, jog or what not through cougar territory and get attacked. Those made a choice, just as I do when we hike. |
Quote:
You would have the people of western Colorado just pick up and move to Denver. Why should we? We have no choice but to drive down that one stretch of road. Its the only highway between Telluride where there are jobs and Norwood and Naturita/Nucla where people can afford to live. Your proposal that people just stay off the roads is ridiculous. Cougar attacks on man are fairly rare and nothing compared to the carnage on the highways caused by deer. In all my years driving in Colorado, I have yet to see a group of courgars congregated round the other side of a curve and dash into the middle of the road and just stay there. I spent 3 months camped alone in lion country and never had a single encounter with one. I used common sense and avoided running around on game trails at dawn or dusk - the times when cougars are most active. Adults who bike or jog in lion country at dusk are asking for it, and I, too, have little sympathy for them. |

I prefer the pricing at Cheaper than Dirt, personally.

There's somewhat of a deer population issue around my house too. And I don't see any other means of overpopulation control than controlled hunting of *some* of the deer.
I'd rather have a hunter kill it and make some awesome jerkey than have a greater chance of another two deer running *into* the side of my car going 45 again.. there was fur stuck behind my liscence plate for 3 months. |

What caliber was that Durango anyway, Bruce?
Here's a viewpoint: Man is an animal. Man is a predator. Therefore, we hunt, kill and eat wild game (to supplement our diet of domestic animals, and also to allow us to thin our own herd through hunting accidents). We are simply more efficient than most predators. We are also not as balanced, to our detriment. If any other predator kills off its entire food source through overhunting, it dies out from starvation. Man has caused situations much more complex than simple overhunting of a single species (pollution, killing off predator species that kept a given prey species in balance, diseases borne by domestic stock, etc). Therefore, when Man has killed off every last living edible thing, Man will die out. That'll learn us. |
We are the bad guys. The worst of all animals.
For those who disagree... name one that is worse. |
Blue green algae. They polluted earth's original nice CO2 atmosphere with O2 and THEN look what happened! Little fuckers!
|
No species is inherently good or bad. We are what we are. And what we all are is utterly insignificant on the planetary scale. *We* are the only ones who care if we exist or not. The planet could care less.
When we kill off entire species, we injure ourselves. We can feel sorry for them if we want to, but in the end, it is because of our own self interest that we would even think to judge our goodness or evil. "To cause the extinction of an entire species is illogical." - Mr. Spock |
Oh, heck, Patrick. the human species is already headed the way of the trilobite. We have soo polluted our environment, and we have exceeded the carrying capacity of our ecosystem (the earth), already. Look at the massive famines which take place on a regular basis in the third world. Look at the rapid deforestration happening everywhere, especially in the Amazon which is one of the greatest CO2 sinks in the world and also gives off the most O2 which we need to breathe. Its no longer a matter of "if" - only WHEN. Makes me glad I'll be outta here soon. The young 'uns can deal with the end of the human species. :(
|
If the Christian Right has its way, you won't need to worry about a slow and agonizing death for humanity due to ecosystem damage. They'll serve it up lickety split when they create Armageddon in their haste to fulfill Biblical prophecy.

Does that make Bush the antichrist?
