A question...

If the people vote in a totalitarian, theocratic regime, that can't be voted out, is that still democratic?

Happy Monkey 01-31-2006 04:13 PM

No, but I'm guessing the next round of elections is a ways off.

I was just knd of noodling over that considering the title of the thread and the nature of the party shift.

Not his fault either, though.

I say let them deal with their own politics. If it ever comes to a real shooting match with Israel, Palestine will cease to exist. Of course, we'll be in the awkward position of keeping the rest of the Arab world off Israel's back, but Palestine itself isn't that big of a worry right now.

Democracy isn't always pretty, but it's still the best option.

Ideally Bush has nothing to do with Pal elections. Unfortunately, he claims to have American troops on the ground in the Middle-East to democratize the region. I know that sounds absurd but he seriously claims that is the case.

Democracy is the tyranny of the majority, and usually the majority votes for clods or lunatics...look at Iran, Palestine, Israel, Venezuela, Bolivia, and the U.S. for proof.

The funny thing about Bush's "Democracy is God" crusade, of course, is that if every country on earth were democratic, Egypt, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, and nuclear Pakistan at a very minimum would fall to al-Qaeda allies. Thoughts like that don't occur to true believers like him, I suppose.

Gee anybody think this supporting democracy nonsensense might be a smokescreen anyway?
