I read this and I admit I was amazed. I've been to about 6 brisses in my life, including both my sons. All the brisses I've been to are done in public. More precisely, it's usually done in a room with as many relatives as can fit. In most cases there is a small family gathering, like a baby shower, and when the time comes the baby, moyel, parents, grandparents, godparents, and anyone else who wants to go into a side room to witness the bris.
There are all sorts of sects and traditions within Judaism, but I have never heard of anyone using their mouth before.
