Scotch eggs and corn fritters are food served in heaven. Oh yeah, baby.

You folks probably think that's weird, but most of you don't have scrapple.

"I do not like green eggs and scrapple, I do not like them, Sam I am."

well, you get the point... :greenface

jinx 12-19-2004 01:13 PM

Scrapple is nasty.

At least the Orthodox Jews here have an incredibly high consumption of candy according to a friend who is a dentist in that community. (Most of it is pareve, so you don't have to wait hours after to eat your meat or dairy meal.) Or in Muslim lands where it is believed that sweet delicacies are a foretaste of Heaven.

Couldn't find a percapita sugar consumption list, but Cuba was cited as one of the highest 60-80 kg/capita versus 30-40 here and other sugar-producing countries are higher than industrialized countries.

It was a National Geographic article on Scotland and mentioned how the high sugar consumption correlates with the growing practice of giving dentures as a 21st birthday gift but that could be outdated now.
The US peaked in '99 at about 150 lbs per person.
I have a feeling any decline is attributable to the rise in other forms of sweeteners. I bought a jar of peanut butter that had a large notice emblazoned across the jar, "NOW 33% LESS SUGAR". When I compared it to the old jar at home, sugar and corn sweeteners had switched positions on the nutrition label. The calories remained constant which would indicate they upped the corn sweeteners as they lowered the sugar. :yelsick:

I was going to bring up tempura, but Jinx beat me to it .
Verry easy to make , GREAT camping food , you make up a whole batch of chicken strips or nuggets for the kids , and the adults get to eat the more exotic stuff , 'scroons , onions , squach , shrimp , eggplant , sweet potatos , etc,,,,,, Just use your imagenation :)
My wife REFUSES to let me make fried twinkes :(
If you do make tempura for lots of folks , do it out side as it is MESSY !!!!
I use a catfish cooker and a BIG ASS wok we got from a Chinese restraunt that closed down.
Oh and one more tip whear long pants and leather shoes , hot oil poping onto your leg can rune your buzz !!!! :yelsick:

Finally- a food that's as dangerous to cook as it is to eat.
I'm starved. Maybe I'll have a couple shots of Wesson to hold me over 'til chow. I gotta try this fried ice cream deal. Interesting. When you cut it open to eat some, I bet it turns into not -so-crispy fried coating breakfast cereal, with extra sugar deboot. Hope my grandkids dont get wind of this................ :eyebrow:

We have deep fried Mars Bars all the time here in OZ, its actually quite tasty, and if you only have a small piece.. you really dont notice the quantity of fat you would actually be taking in.

they sell them for 50 cents each here (the fun size mars, not the full size)

I was at the Longhorn Steakhouse the other day and they serve deep fried cheesecake. It is served in a big wine-snifter looking bowl with raspberry sauce at the bottom, the cheesecake looking bits mixed in with vanilla icecream, and whipped cream and cherries on the top.

OMG good.

wolf 03-30-2005 12:30 PM

Oh. My. Gods.

I will be going to a conference that is near a Longhorn next week.

Ooooooh.

Maybe I can go to Longhorn one night, and Chi-Chi's for the fried ice cream the next ...

Expense account? :eyebrow:

wolf 03-31-2005 02:37 AM

No, although that reminds me I have to write down my mileage for the only type of reimbursement the nuthouse gives on stuff like that.

I have a very dear, traditionally-minded friend who sincerely believes the chick shouldn't pay for anything ...

Nasty but true

Yeah, this is far from a "look at the freaky Brits" thing. In my area (around Louisville, KY USA), street festivals fry up Twinkies, Snickers, and other wonderful things I'd rather not think about actually eating.

Although, I was told a couple years ago that I had one while I was trashed... :dead:

(Off topic... This is my first post in a couple years. Someone forwarded me the catfish eating a basketball and I remembered how freakin' great the IOTD's are!)

EDIT: Aaaaaaand... I just realized it's a three-month old post. I wonder why it sorted at the top of my list?

*sigh* I'm a newbie all over again.
