ok, why is drudge not a good source, and how do you know that the guy who wrote the book is a "nut".

nobody has called the guy that Kerry rescued a nut, so why would you assume that the guy who replaced him is one?

Who?

Here's a good rundown on John E. O'Neil. He was hired by Nixon to attack Kerry, and has been brought out of retirement by Bush. He loves to give the impression that he served with Kerry, but he didn't meet him until a debate on the Dick Cavett Show.

Drudge is a tabloid. His exclusives are as likely to be untrue as they are to be true - he doesn't check. And he's not above altering his sources to suit his convenience.

lookout123 07-28-2004 01:33 PM

i've never heard him claim that he served with Kerry. he served in the same unit after Kerry with many of the same men that Kerry was with.
there are people in the US air force that i've never worked directly with that i can speak volumes(both good and bad) about because i have gone into units after them.

anyway - i don't really care one way or another about the guy. it was a story involving the dnc so i posted it.

and drudge is a moron for not crediting the guy with a photo, but drudge doesn't just make shit up either - he doesn't generally write much, choosing instead to link to others. he is a one man version of the cellar; just putting all of his links in a row.

Happy Monkey 07-28-2004 01:35 PM

He altered the photo.

lookout123 07-28-2004 02:42 PM

he obviously altered the photo so he wouldn't have to credit the guy. stupid. but flipping a photo is not tantamount to falsification of news stories.

Happy Monkey 07-28-2004 03:27 PM

Come on. He flipped the photo and altered the street signs and traffic light. That is an active attempt to falsify something that doesn't even matter. Why would you think he'd be more scrupulous on something he actually cared about?

But regardless, I didn't say he falsified news stories. I said he doesn't check whether they are true or not before publishing.

then they are also would win the award for dipshit of the year.

warch - you can think what you want about my views. back when the democratic primaries were first gearing up and kerry started showing the clips i threw the bullshit card. i can't find the quote now, but a couple of the guys who were with kerry in his navy days have said that he referred to himself as the next JFK from Mass. these weren't ( and i don't think they are) negative or sniping comments. they are simply an example of the fact that Kerry planned on a political career, as many Yaleys do, even at that early date.

my view, of it is that he made the films back then so that he could use them in the future, if and when appropriate for his political career. he has every right in the world to do so - i think it is unfortunate that there are people out there who think the film clips actually show him in combat situations.

Update

Acceptance Anecdote
In his acceptance speech at the Democratic Convention last month, John Kerry told the story of Mary Ann Knowles, a New Hampshire woman with breast cancer who Kerry said, "had to keep working day after day right through her chemotherapy, no matter how sick she felt, because she was terrified of losing her family's health insurance."

But New Hampshire's Union Leader newspaper reports Knowles had 26 weeks of paid disability leave available, and was never in danger of losing her insurance.

Those damn cancer patients. Just like them damn welfare mamas. Always trying to rip off the man. ;)

It is a little late in coming, but here is George Will's column addressing Kerry's speech at the DNC convention.
