Yes, the software assigns a certain color value (or, for more advanced versions, a color pattern) for each component picture, then builds the target picture using those values.

I, for one, don't look forward to a time that we could remove the duplicates from the picture.

I was sufficiently bothered by the deceptiveness of the image to check out the origin of the Bush picture. The author of the picture says up-front: "No photograph is used more than three times." so I must admit, he is being very correct about it.

It's also a relief to know that not all those images correspond to lost souls in real life...

Glatt, now you've got me wondering if the picture of Bush, that was made up of asshole pictures, used repeats. I really don't want to check it that closely though.;)
