Ya know, I think this example sucks. Who the hell is this guy? How freakin' obviously insecure is all that? "I feel every man is looking at you?" He should be thinking, "Your damn right, and she's with me." Complete with smug look.
Plus, since when do men have all these ulterior motives? As a guy, I've always believed that was just female paranoid delusion. Now you're saying it's legit? Ok, granted, there may be some men that think that hard, but most of us just say what's passing through our heads. Let women do all that double-meaning hidden-why crap. I'd rather play a video game or watch a cartoon.
Basically this all comes back to my original theory of all male-female relations: men are stupid, women are insane.

Sometimes its good exercise to think harder.:)

Howzat?

Works for me. Every time.

Well duh, those are two completely different statements and two completely different meanings. They are NOT a right and wrong way to say the same thing.

Sometimes I wonder why it is that I don't have a girlfriend, and sometimes not so much.
Riddill: SteveDallas has it exactly right. If you're (not you specifically, but anyone, including women) going to open your mouth about the way your partner looks, you'd best have mustard flavored toenail polish on.

Hrm...maybe not to you. However, I've always been a believer in the way words are presented as well as the tone is which they are spoken.

As far as the example goes, I would venture to guess that the "trash" aspect of the pants was in the eye of the beholder. If I looked in the mirror, and didn't see that the pants were "trashy", and he thought that they were, then we'd have a problem, because I wouldn't change the pants (especially if at the time, those were the only pants that I had to wear that were clean...hey sometimes laundry just ain't done in time for some things...).

And lastly, Goddamn, I can't stand a jealous man!!!

Of course, Rho. There are always umpteen degrees of diplomacy that can be applied to any statement you want to make, depending on how lightly you want to tread. BUT, the two sentences given are not two ways to say the same thing. They are completely different thoughts.

I guess I was thinking that the first thought was what the guy wanted to say, and that the second was what he "should" have said, so I suppose I thought the two were the same...in that way.

Actually, I prefer cloudy days. Direct sunlight hurts my eyes.
