What are hider and bearing?

from the photo I'd guess that "bearing" is "rollerblader" — there are tanlines from the bladeboots and elbow & knee pads.

"hider" ... I"im thinking perhaps scuba diver ... wetsuit lines? My other guess was aerobics instructor

(the guy billy says is a surfer I thought was maybe "chippendale's dancer" or "man whore" from the laceup vest look.)

I'm very amused by "programmer" which is how I was identifying the guy as well.

Wolf, u r right

I can not espress it in a right word that time. It is what you said.

Maybe the surfer is part of a gay man's wave-riders association? It looks like he wears some sort of leather vest when he paddles out.

That's a PFD, ie lifejacket.

I've never met a surfer that can't swim, and usually the board is a form of a PFD. I'ma stick with my label of Village People Surf Dude.

I don't know much about surfing (I have several friends really into it, along with rock climbing, sky diving, scuba, snowboarding, and all kinds of other extreme stuff I've never tried), but it would make sense to me that a surfer might want a floatation device connected to their body in case they're knocked unconscious. At least for water-skiing, it's required to wear one, so while my traditional mental picture of a surfer doesn't include anything like that, I'm not ready to rule out the possibility that a surfer might use one.
