UT, the main problem is this. Young kids (more in the past, but still today) get a million dollar check from a record label, and in return they give up all future control over their creative output. When you're making $16,000 a year working at Crispy Cream, this seems like a great deal. When you're 20 years into a career that's generated hundreds of millions of dollars for the record label, it seems like highway robbery.
