Coup leaders really screwed up. Erdogan was considered a threat due to his dictatorship trends and by imposing religion on a secular society. As a result of a coup, thousands of secular school administrator and teachers have been removed. Thousands more in other political parties and many public critics have been fired, removed, or arrested.

Coup leaders made possible more of what they opposed. Erdogan used their actions to justify marshal law and further entrench his power.

Turkey's actions (including tactic support for Isis) determine much of what happens in the Middle East. Turkey cannot even decide who is the enemy and who is an ally. Just another reason that region has no pending solution. Will suffer deep seated loss as its best educated citizens appear as refugees in other nations.

Erdogan controls Turkey and Obama controls Erdogan. That's why Obama had CIA instigate diversionary coup destined for failure. Obama had facts to know Erdogan would come out stronger.
