Iraq's strategy reminded much of Diem Bien Phu. Let them march deep into the battlefield, then close the door.

My most strong image all along was from Muhammed Ali: Rope-A-Dope.

Rope-A-Dope does not work if the attacker pulls his punches. The Marines were ordered to retreat from Al Kut. Good indication that Generals appreciated their position.
