Well ...

We are the only colony that was founded on the principle of true religious freedom and diversity, unlike Maryland and Rhode Island which were for segregating the papists ...

Takes the fight right out of ya, doesn't it. That's the Quaker way. :haha:

That's a fucked up survey. They asked science teachers if they believed in creationism.

That, by itself fucks the survey for me. Fucks it hard.

It also continues to offend me when anyone who believes in God is automatically a fanatic.

xoxoxoBruce 05-03-2013 02:32 PM

Why does asking science teachers fuck the survey? That's what they were investigating, how science teachers feel, and how it affects what they teach.

Either I mistake your shape and making quite...
You mean America?
The country which surveys suggest* would never elect an atheist?
That fear Islamists just because of their religion? That a minor but noisy minority had an issue with JFK purely on the grounds of his Catholicism?

The UK can't be totally proud of its history, but I think more recently we've been better at tolerance. Perhaps because although we have a state religion it's based on scones and afternoon sherry and more tea Vicar?

Can't tell you yet, but I'm working on it.

I'm just liking all the comments about fucking. May I have some please?

She meant Pennsylvania, as opposed to the other 12 original colonies in America.

Sundae 05-04-2013 08:35 AM

I had a feeling I read it wrong.
'pologies.

FTR you (as a country) could still do with more scones and tea. And sherry.

Griff 05-04-2013 08:40 AM

Yeah Pennsylvania was the actual religious freedom colony. If you look at New England it was about the right of oppressed religious to in turn oppress. Talk about founding myths.

Clodfobble 05-04-2013 09:19 AM

I always liked Georgia: nothing to do with God, everything to do with running away from your crippling financial debts in the Old World.

That's an incredibly moronic simplification of matters.

Actually it goes back to the Crusades when we stole algebra from the Arabs and refused to give it back. The Arabs retaliated by invading Spain until they were driven out in their turn by the Children's Crusade. Then Richard the Lion-hearted in effect abandoned the throne of England so he and all the knights from Camelot could go look for the Holy Grail (what-ever that was) which had been stolen by jihadists traveling over the Alps with Hannibal and his elephants. This gave rise to the Republican party which emigrated to the American Colonies and began the Salem witchcraft trials.

Now, are we clear?

Well, outside of this website I have read many moronic posts. Islamophobia is alive and well across the Western world.

Perhaps I've read more American posts because they're in English.
I avoid British Islamophobia just because I know what sites I might encounter it on; but I won't pretend it doesn't exist.
