orly? I've never seen one afaik
|
my childhood had its interesting moments. Lovable creatures like me don't happen without some parental up-fucking, you know.....

Mike Leigh is an interesting director. Most of his films are nearly entirely improvised. He assembles a group of actors, gives them a vague outline of a plot and has the group spend several months improvising and developing their characters and their story. If he feels they've got a film he starts filming. That's how I heard it, at any rate.
I've seen Nuts in May, Secrets and Lies, Life is Sweet, Topsy Turvy (About Gilbert and Sullivan and their writing of The Mikado - not improvised afaik) They are all very intense and a mix of humor and sadness. I'd have to say Secrets and Lies was my favorite. spoilers galore in the plot summary. |
I've seen Secrets and Lies and Life is Sweet.
I thought I'd seen another, but I may be making it up. Oh - Vera Drake. He's slightly too bitter-sweet for me. I could easily cry all the way through his films. Like Kate Atkinson but without the happiness. |
I know what you mean. But they usually have a positive resolution IIRC.
But yes, he does go to some very dark places. Maybe I was really thinking Bill Forsyth in relation to Monster's story, much more humorous and bizarre. |
Or Bruce Forsyth?

Don't confuse me.

Do I win if I can?

Don't mock the afflicted.
|
You can, however, mock the affected. Please.
|
I would if I could. But I admit I'd have to Google it first, and that would be cheating.
