JB is flying a flag of his own design and weaving, his own interpretation. He doesn't define the Christian God. Most people agree that radical Islamists don't define true Islam, but they are a strong political force and are doing tremendous damage around the world. They claim the Koran as their guide and justification. There are plenty historical examples of atrocities they've committed and are committing, yet Islam is generally regarded as separate from their actions.

Christianity is commonly defined (by non-Christians) by the worst actions of certain groups of its followers (there have been plenty of non-violent Christians through the centuries but they aren't considered to represent their religion, as we consider non-violent Muslims to truly represent theirs). Those who define one religion by the worst that has been done in its name, however repulsive those actions are to other adherents of the religion, should be consistent. Do it for one, do it for all. I would prefer the approach of not sweepingly defining and condemning entire non-homogenous groups that are not simple in makeup, theology, or history.

Ortho, I wasn't trying to chastise, just clarifying where I was going with my remarks.

Dana, we should be thankful for the church keeping those uppity women from spoiling all the fun. They probably wouldn't have let us have half the great wars, and certainly wouldn't have let us keep young, perky, supple, submissive, servants around the house. :haha:

Well I was more or less reffering to what goes on in "My personal life and walk with God." eg: God has absolute power in MY life.. NOT in those who choose to justify "heinius" crimes... If something Goes wrong.. eg; If I end up with cancer or in the electric chair or shot dead in the street; I was making statement on my faith.. may not apply to society in general.. and plus you got to think when the Israelites lost wars it was usually because God lifted the "hedge of protection" he did it because they did something wrong but also so they could learn a lesson....,, if God allows something bad to happen it's for the better in the long run...

Yeah. But I wasn't defining Christianity. I was referring specifically to the use of Christianity and some notion of 'God's will' as a justification for actions:

JBKlyde:

The way I see God Almighty has Absolute power in my life AND in everything that happens under the sun so If something goes wrong It's nobodys fault it's GOD WILL.
Bruce:

That right there, has been used to justify some of the most heinous crimes in history.

really?? examples please.. The Crunch only works when the box is in motion. I did acid twice in my entire life time I BLAME that for 10% of my problems today..
This was not a general attack on Christianity as somehow uniquely violent or problematic. It's just that the other faiths were not really relevant to this particular discussion.

It's called free will, God gives it, you got it... without it the Jews couldn't make good or bad choices, could they.
That means you can't sit on you ass and leave everything up to God, you have to make choices/take action, and the responsibility for the choices/action.
