I'm not sure what you mean classic, but my response to that would be that if asian students do so much better than 'white' (and I use inverted comas because I think the term white is highly subjective anyway) students, then maybe white students need to have a look at why.
|
I was actually referring to job application tests where Caucasians who scored higher than non-caucasians still were not hired because of minority quotas that had to be filled.
|
OH yeah, well that's not fair either.
|
Then too, there are the non-whites who score higher than the whites.
And throughout their career they are believed to be less qualified, and are getting the degree or job only as part of an alleged quota system. Classic, I believe you have better ideas than this one. |
I never implied it was a one way situation.

I am truly looking forward to a time when we will be Americans, at least here in the United States. Then we will not have to fill quotas based on what we look like, or where we grew up.
The way I see it, the more we call attention to our differences...the more we call attention to our differences. |
But the reason you're calling attention to your differences is because there was a grotesue disparity in opportunity and life chances between 'whites' and other ethnic groups.
For all the inherent unfairnesses in the positive discrimination systems, they have served to ameliorate some of the worst excesses of institutional racism which underpinned society at the time those systems were devised. However unfair and grotesque the anomalies thrown up by those systems (such as the highly qualified white man passed over in favour of a less qualified asian man) they barely shake the dish on that side of the scales compared to the weight of unfairness that existed, and some would argue still exists in large part on the other side. |

Racism in this country is far from dead. It has just gone underground. For example, I have been told not to rent a room to anyone from Towaoc or Ignacio. These two towns are on the Ute reservation and are inhabited almost exclusively by Native Americans. We can't say "no Utes", but we can do the next best thing. This policy pisses me off so much that not only do I rent rooms to Utes from anywhere, I also give them the cheaper business rate.
If anyone asks me about this, I just say "They looked hispanic to me." |
You are all racists and you are ignoring me because I come from the Aleutian Islands.

You Unangans all look alike! You're a swarthy, ruddy people.
