My dad was a kid and lived in Sydney when that happened and remembers that night. Next time I speak to him I see what else he remembers.

85% of what he remembers is an error directly traceable to top management.

Give him the Wikipedia article cited by classicman. Apparently extremely well researched. One of so many exciting stories that happened in every human occupied continent in the world. And that is mostly unknown. A story that goes hand in hand with the Japanese sub that torpedoed at least one US battleship during Pearl Harbor.

Also curious is a protected gravesite for the M-24. And an unsuccessful attempt to bring down the Sydney Harbor bridge.

Even in London, unexploded munitions are still discovered.

Oregon of all places was bombed by the Japanese during the war. A float plane launched from a Japanese submarine conducted two bombing runs near Brookings, Oregon in September 1942. The idea being to start forest fires and perhaps compel the US to pull forces back for West Coast defense. The incendiary bombs fizzled in the rain-soaked Oregon forests and the attacks were kept quiet.

Outside of Japan's scattershot balloon bombs, they were the only Axis bombing raids on the continental US during the war.
