I come in from milking at half-time and lil Griff breaks out her Comic Book Guy voice, "Worst Super Bowl halftime show ever."

Griff 02-06-2011 07:24 PM

Is there something seriously wrong with the field down in Dallas?

glatt 02-06-2011 07:30 PM

Thing about the Black Eyed Peas is that they don't rely on their vocals for the show, so they can give a standard show even in an akward half time environment. Their music sounded the same as the studio version and the show was visually stunning. I mostly enjoyed it. Better than most half time shows. Better than the Who last year.

Halftime

Acura TSX - nice cgi, undistinguished

Daytone 500 - I don't get the manhole covers blowing off.

Chatter.com - don['t try to use commercials to teach me.

oooh. alien encounters. vocoders. I don't much care. I need to get back to making my snack. And the sound engineer is apparently stoned or asleep. I rather hoped that when Slash popped up out of the stage Axl Rose would soon follow ... that chick cannot sing Sweet Child of Mine.

Chatter.com again. What is it, business productivity or social networking? Business productivity made as fun as social networking?

Toyota - conventional, not worth super bowl money.

TGI Friday's Blind date. stupid.

Gambler's anonymous. lame. close to the truth, but lame. (might be PA only ad)

Honda CRV Bad weather car. eh. nie selling point.

The Daily - tablet newspaper. How about that. Is the market penetration on tablets big enough to support something like that? Do peope who slavishly buy Apple products read news?

NFL.com - it's everywhere, isn't it.

Car Warriors - I don't really get into any of those car building shows.

Daytona 500 - Ferris wheel. It's my childhood nightmare's writ large. But I don't get what it has to do with car racing.

What gives, I thought the best ads were supposed to run at halftime?

disagree!

several local ads for car dealers, etc. can't imagine how much that cost!

Thank you, monster. Just right!

Now that everybody in America has color TV, do we really still need Home and Away jerseys?

monster 02-06-2011 07:41 PM

I hate hate hate the home and away thing. N'existe pas en UK. And white is the worst color to launder.

I don't know if this is just hockey in the US, or all sports?

In the UK, soccer/football teams wear their own color/colour. If, and only if two teams meet who have the same color, then they away team uses their second "away" kit.

for non-US viewers who may not know, here, The home team wear white or light, and the away team wears a dark color. So, in the pic, Thor is in the home jersey, his away Jersey is red. Hector has White and Blue.

Cloud 02-06-2011 07:46 PM

the announcers seem like Steelers fans--don't seem even handed. could be my imagination

wolf 02-06-2011 07:47 PM

Uh, British woman ... home is dark and away is white.

Cloud, I think you're right ... couple of them are former Steelers, aren't they?

monster 02-06-2011 07:58 PM

Ok. sorta cleared up...it varies and even within sports and leagues...

from Wikisourceofallknowledge:

For home and away jerseys, teams often use white (or another light color such as yellow) as the main color for one jersey and the team's primary color as the main color for the other jersey. "White home" is the convention in baseball (MLB), basketball (NBA, NCAA basketball) and college hockey, while "white away" is the convention in football (NFL, NCAA football) and NHL. However, the conventions are not rules, and often the home team has the right to choose which jersey it will wear, with the visiting team forced to choose a contrasting color. For this reason, teams often create a third jersey, usually with a secondary team color, to ensure that they will always have an appropriate selection for the game. The term "third" or "alternate" typically refers to this specially designed jersey. Throwback jerseys can be considered additional alternate jerseys, but they are generally only used for special team games and not for the "third" purpose.

A baseball guy and an ex-cowboy quarterback.

wolf 02-06-2011 08:12 PM

I thought I saw Terry Bradshaw behind the desk, was he only doing color commentary or halftime?
