I'm a little torn on that one. Sure, the kid has every right to dress up how he wants for Halloween, and those other moms are ignorant bitches. But the boy was worried people would make fun of him. He was right. Those other moms made fun of him. The question is, did he enjoy himself? Is he glad he did it? The mom doesn't say. Sure, it's noble for him to take a stand for what is right, and I'm glad there are kids out there like him, fighting the good fight. But did this kid get to have a fun time on Halloween, or was it tense and miserable?

Well, the mom didn't think that anyone actually would bully him or make fun of him before it happened. Now that it did happen, she might be more cautious about such choices (which is very sad).

Hopefully this line:
"And my little man worked that costume like no other. He rocked that wig, and I wouldn’t want it any other way"
means that he did end up having fun.

Bullies for any reason need to be weeded out. Maybe put all bullies in one room and let them out bully each other.

PAy Per View Bully Cage Match. It would be interesting to watch them slowly consume one another

She said the other kids had no problem with it, just a few of the mothers over thinking it.

Much ado about nothing - Boys have been dressing like that for years ... especially for Halloween. Look at facebook - There are, or were, plenty of pics where boys were dressed as girls and vice versa.

Next thing you know we'll have article that a son is a mass murderer because he dressed as one to go trick or treating. meh.

footfootfoot 11-05-2010 10:58 AM

My son went out on Halloween dressed as a skeleton; we come to find out later on that he actually HAS a skeleton hidden inside his body.

We don't know what to think.

OMG - did you take him to a doctor?

Foot - haggis

My Dad genuinely believes that homosexuality is wrong and is a perversion.
He will switch over if Alan Carr, Julian Clary or Graham Norton is on.
Although he watched Tonight's the Night every week, and came to see JB in concert with us in Oxford... I think because JB, although a show-queen in many respects is very manly. For an uphill gardener.

I can't talk to Dad about it any more. It just upsets me too much.
Lord knows what he'd do if he realised I have gay porn upstairs. Probably weep quietly and pray for my soul. He's not an aggressive man and would never countenance bullying, or even being rude to people on account of their beliefs. But that said, he resents the fact that Catholic adoption agencies were "forced" to close because they refused to allow gay people to adopt from them. And he wholly supports B&B owners who refuse to let rooms to two men (funny, you never hear it about two women - presumably because women don't like sex - according to Stephen Fry this week anyway).

What?! JB a Chutney Ferret? Am I always the last to know?

(j/k I had no idea what an Uphill Gardener was and had to look it up, saw Chutney Ferret as a synonym. You Brits have all the best slang. Also no idea who JB is either)

foot - funny that, made me think of 'The Running Man.' If we could get Jeff Probst to jettison these bullies into a nightmarish playground for them to run through while victims get a chance to get a little revenge would be kinda sweet.

classicman 11-05-2010 02:12 PM

There is a TV show that MTV, I think, does... its about the bully getting into the ring with a pro fighter, representing the bullied, and basically getting his ass kicked. I saw a couple that were entertaining, others not so much.

ETA - Found it here

I have something connected to slang to send to my lucky Secret Santa recipient...

JB is John Barrowman. I try not to write about him too much, hence the abbreviation. He's Scots born, American raised, and the person Dana, Limey and I are going to see panto in Glasgow in January.

I would just like to put in a YAY here for girls with gay porn! :luv:

Kids who are bullied are statistically likely to then engage in bullying. Chances are the kid dishing it out in year 7 was taking it in year 6.

How parents and schools respond to these kids can make a difference.

Very worrying that 'gay bashing' seems to be enjoying a come back.

Also very worrying how far 'bullying' actually goes these days. I dunno, when i was a kid bullying was distressing, and sometimes that'd extend to physical stuff, but I don't recall hearing about that many incidents of serious injury or death. That kind of violence was something the nutters got involved in, and could generally be found on football terraces and the town centre on a Friday night.

Some kid at school tells you you're gonna get it at the end of the day: fuck. These days they're probably armed.
