Hang on, is Cridders your name IRL?
I always thought it was a made-up name for Victorian explorers in children's stories :)

No, I have a very 'common or garden' English surname.
I just chose 'Carruthers' as a user name for reasons much as you have mentioned, ie tales of daring-do from the days of Empire related in childhood stories.
However, I have used the National Trust site to look up our real family names.
