From the article:

The history of the regimental goat dates back to the American War of Independence when a wild goat wandered on to a battlefield and ended up leading the regimental Colours at the end of a battle.
Well no wonder the Brits lost the war, they followed a goat into battle. Could they not tell it apart from their commanders?

Have you pictures of the commanders? Huge whiskers. It's an easy mistake to make.

Nah. our lads had plenty of female company. The american soldiers were somewhat disdainful of our tendency to allow so many 'camp followers' ... and American soldiers therefore had a reputation for being a little scruffy (and manly), as it was the chikas who did the washing and mending of uniforms...meanwhile we had a volteface on the whole women accompanying the army after a couple of notable acts of 'cowardice' provoking a 'gender panic' and leading to a change in how the women were viewed and fears that they were having a feminising effect on the men.

Sorry. That was a serious historical point...back to the comedy:

You'll notice it's a Welsh Regiment....right?

Undertoad 06-12-2009 02:53 PM

Welsh... shouldn't it be a sheep?

Flint 06-12-2009 03:02 PM

Gravdigr 06-12-2009 04:06 PM
