I've been worrying for the past few days that Diz is diabetic.
Last night I found a reasonable way to calculate how much he should be drinking, and he is well within normal limits. Phew. Have never had to give him a pill yet, but I think I'll be okay. He wriggles and shouts when I clip his claws, but he accepts it as something I have decided is necessary. I'd expect pilling him up would be the same. Famous last words... |
Easiest way to give a cat a pill?
Don't. |
It isn't that bad to give them a pill because you first scruff them pulling them back off their front feet a bit...so, that sort-of stuns them. Then you, with your one free hand, open their mouth and drop the pill down their throat hoping they will swallow it rather than gag on it.
Wow, after writing that out, it's gotta be a horrid experience for the cat. Poor kitties. I could be wrong but another way you can tell if Diz is diabetic is his litterbox (lack of urine) and if he is completely lethargic....Cat's are sleeping, what, 75% of the day? It might be hard to tell if he's lethargic. I wonder if anyone has thought of a paw-prick glucose monitor for beasties... |
