just a little language-lesson :
Dachshund is a German word and means badgerdog. Dachs = badger, Hund = dog
in German we call them Dackel

makes no sense but that is the way it is :rolleyes:

Actually, I did have to cheat a bit. The 'front' legs are natural nubs, but there were no 'back' legs until I substituted the tips from 2 other sweet potatoes. It hardly seemed fair to leave the poor thing with only two legs, and stubby ones at that.

That is a good point, so I guess I'll go back and have a closer look. Truth is, Brinks is already 9 years old, so if he makes it to 15 or so, he'll probably become a vegetable. Of some sort.
