When I took driver's ed back as a pup, I remember this statistic being given to us very ominously by the teacher as a warning that the roads around your house are very dangerous and that you shouldn't let your guard down just because you know them well.

He had a point, but he failed to mention that the overwhelming majority of people do most of their driving withing 15 km from home, and that's why most accidents occur there.

Heh, I always loved that "statistic." No matter where you drive, the majority of your driving will be within 15 (insert distance type here) from your home.
