It's illegal to get a tattoo from a licenced artist if you're under the influence of any drug or alcohol. In Australia that is.

I still don't see why it's graffiti though. It's an expression of a thought or feeling or emotion that you want to show whoever happens to look. It's no different to wearing earings or designer shoes. It tells people something about you.

I'm assuming from your comments you're a clean skin tw.

Interesting and pretty earrings and shoes exist. And like all such works, they get tired and replaced. Tattoos are permanent. I have never seen a pretty tattoo. Tattoos get old, tired, and black like a scar. One could scar their face and call that an expression to show. Why not?

Some spend $tens of thousands getting their whole body tattooed. Is it pretty because they are expressing themselves? Of course not. One who expresses responsibly also learns and advances with age. With age, their expression does not become a permanent black scar. The tattoo is permanent and stubborn - more like those who fear change, growth, and the advancement of mankind. Tattoos do say much about the person - as does drug addiction which also has the same productive effect. Tattoo says a lot about how one thinks and how one participates in the world.

I have never seen a pretty tattoo. If they were pretty, then the most pretty people would be those who invested $tens of thousands in full body tattoos. Instead they would invest in an education. Why does an inverse relationship exist between tattoos and education? Which does the smarter person invest $10,000?

Since they were so pretty and expression of 'who we were', then how many wear their leisure suites permanently?

Why is it that people who don't have tattoos think it's ok to criticize those who do? If you don't understand why people do it that's fine. Don't get one yourself. We don't care if you do or not. That's the difference.

Not all people spend fortunes on tattoos. In fact, the majority of people with tattoos have a few and that's it. That's not thousands of dollars. Besides, why is it up to you to tell people how they should spend their money?

Your way is not necessarily the best way tw. Why must I keep telling you that?

HungLikeJesus 01-30-2008 07:01 PM

It would be rather silly for people with tattoos to criticize people with tattoos, wouldn't it?

If you believe my post to be criticism, then you have assumed something not intended. Only stated are facts - a perspective - as to why tattoos are considered ugly.

I may have tattoos. I may be warning others to not make my mistakes. It still does not change the only point in that post - the facts - a perspective that is not popular among some people.

Not that emotion is relevant in a post that instead seeks to define irrefutable facts and the beauty of a leisure suit. Did I say what stays in my closet - permanently?

TheMercenary 01-30-2008 08:01 PM

That is only your opinion tw. You are deluded into thinking that what you say is factual... about anything.

Aliantha 01-30-2008 08:08 PM

OK, well let's clarify the facts then.

1. Tattooing is not graffiti. Look up any dictionary and it will mention walls as the surface, not skin.

2. Very few people have meaningless advertising tattooed on their bodies.

3. Getting paid to wear a tattoo doesn't make you smart.

4. It's illegal to get a tattoo from a licenced artist if you're under the influence of any drug or alcohol.

5. Even if all the tattooed people got another one with their rebate cheque, it wont save your economy.

TheMercenary 01-30-2008 08:10 PM

I love the last one. :D

Aliantha 01-30-2008 08:11 PM

Yeah...that was a little humorous fact for you. ;)

My European peers keep telling me America is done. Now we have a same declaration from Australia. Well at least we still have rivers with water in it.

I just had this vision in my head of everyone who got a check running out and getting a tat. Pretty funny.

Well the tattooists would probably be pretty happy.

Last time I looked, Australia was so dry as to even suck up and erase a typhoon (coming from the west). Maybe its a good time to start selling books on fish in Australia. Just an idea.

TheMercenary 01-30-2008 08:20 PM

I have a few friends who are artists, they would think it was a great idea. Considering we live in a town with a bunch of soldiers I am sure that many will be doing just that.
