well the only resolution I wanted to make failed before it'd even begun.
I think the problem was, I made the resolution at a time of weakness, so it's not surprising it failed. Oh well, never mind. :) It wont affect the outcome of my life anyway. |
no, LJ, I just don't like it when people set themselves up to fail. god knows I've done it to myself plenty of times.
I'd be the first to applaud you for any effort you make toward your health, or other goals. and as for the up yours part . . . is that bad? :) |
omfg. anyone who takes this whole new year's resolution thing seriously should be nailed up. If you want to change something in your life, just damn well change it. at the moment you realise you really want to change it. ignore the date, only write it down on paper or say it aloud if that helps you, and for fucks sake resolve to lighten up a little. Nothing is more amusing about new year's resolutions that the breaking them stories.....

Recipe for weight loss:
Breakfast -- 1 serving of All-Bran with as little milk as possible Lunch -- Tuna sandwich: 1 can tuna in water, 2 slices of bread, 1 slice of american cheese, and a thin coating of Miracle Whip Dinner -- Tuna sandwich again. You can have two if you absolutely must. Eat like that on top of a decent exercise program. Make sure to take a multi-vitamin, at the very least. You will be hungry. You will lose weight. Quickly. |
You will starve, your teeth will fall out and you will smell like fish 24/7.:eyebrow:
|
You'll regain all the weight and more because it's a bad diet that will fail, instead of a consistent lifestyle change.
|
i am telling you that if you are honestly interested in long term weight loss check out the Men's Health Abs Diet. It is basically just a recipe book. I'm not trying to lose weight but I use the thing because they come up with good recipes. Their motto is that "if you ever find yourself hungry, you aren't following the abs diet". I have found that to be absolutely true. I actually have to cut down some of the quantities because it is a lot of food. They even plan in your "cheat" day.

That said, I would never do it again. However, if you are trying to lose a certain amount in a certain time, it'll do it healthier than that cabbage soup diet. |
I don't really make 'resolutions' for New Years, I just use it as a point to get back on track. The holidays kind of throw me off, work, health and mentalwise.
One of the things that inevitably happens is I find myself coming in later and later to work...as a result of usually staying up too late in the evenings becasue if holiday prep in it's various forms, post holiday clean-up or whatever. Haven't made it in before 8:30 yet damn it, and I want to (should) be here by 8:00. 8:40 this morning. Grrrrrr. |
Today in group we did Goal Setting. Unfortunately, as a member had already taken up a large amount of time giving us detailed information about something irrelevant (ie only tenuously connected with his own family and not at all connected with drinking) the counsellor didn't go through SMART very clearly.
For those who are unfamiliar S - specific, significant M - Measureable, meaningful A - Attainable, achieveable, action-oriented R - Realistic, reasonable, relevant T - Timely, tangible I've done it before so was able to handle setting goals which fit each of the criteria. But then I had to sit and listen to six other people just ramble through vague, unmeasureable goals which they hadn't set actions or timeframes for. Sheesh. Anyway it confirmed what mine are so I'm alright Jack. Complete current therapy (a bit of a cheat as I have no intention of NOT completing it) Job by end of March (preferably sooner) Financial stability - even if paying off debts - by end April Healthy BMI by my birthday (July 1) Start saving for trip to America by end of year Didn't add current plan to find a partner by the end of the year. I only share things like that with anyone with access to the Cellar ;) BTW Monster, I have always found that a specific date for starting a change in my life is a very useful focus for my ambition/ motivation. Sometimes it has been an abitrary date, sometimes after a specific event (a birthday, payday, holiday etc) and sometimes a traditional date like New Year. HM was full of scoffage for my New Year return to the gym, claiming I was just putting it off and was making it harder for myself. I've hit my weekly targets for the last two weeks while he is still keeping to the same "holiday" schedule he developed over Christmas... |
bah humbug ;)
