yea...what buster said.
:) |
To add. I believe I would partition the new drive. The number of partitions would depend on drive size. Would make defrag and backups easier. IMHO. bb

Did anyone buy a flappin drive????
|
Not yet. I mentioned it, and now I might be getting one for Christmas. If I don't, then I'm allowed to go buy one. So I'm in a holding pattern.

Neat.

Santa brought me a new external drive! 250 GB of space now. I don't know what to do with all this room. Presently trying to figure out how to partition it, but not trying too hard. Lots of nice distractions today.

Please do not try to confiscate his new hard drive, computer, house, wife, and/or children.;) |
One thing to keep in mind - from the big boys, the warranties are not all the same. As far as I know, Seagate is the only one who still offers a five year warranty it used to be the standard). WD only offers three, and I think Maxtor (now owned by Seagate) is at one.
So I've switched exclusively to Seagate :) |
Kinda depends on which drive you get. Read the fine print. I got a Maxtor in Feb. that has a 5 year deal. But as stated, they've changed things. Back in time, I'd have something like a 4GB drive and call in bad. Would get a 20 GB back. So blame it on me. :bolt:

i just ordered a 250GB WD, so i'm sure sometime in the next couple of weeks i'll be crying for help in moving my pictures and itunes over to that badboy.
|
I am also looking at buying a separate hard drive. This is a useful thread--keep us posted, people!

bang/buck factor is off the scale. 1,500 GB external hd for 460.00 |
My 250GB Seagate Free Agent desktop doesn't always turn off automatically like it's supposed to when I turn off my PC. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. I've since plugged it in to its own power strip and now tap that switch with my toe when I want to turn it on and off. Works well enough, but I wish it had a power switch on its case.
Big test coming up will be when I start converting my old VHS family movies to DVDs. I'll likely rely on this drive a lot then, so that will put it through its paces. |
