I have a bottle of green Fairy under my sink. I use it to wash dishes. . . Works a charm.

My reply is that people are as crazy as they want to be, whether on absinthe or not. Personally I actually did drink the stuff, but it does make you terribly drunk, which may or not be a good thing.
For example, we have gained a lot of wonderful art (literature, theatre, poetry etc) from this substance (remember Lithium?), but, would we have gained it without it? I don't know. Was it right to ban absinthe in the first place?
I happen to like the taste of aniseed. Has anyone every tried to order poached eggs in Paris without being intoxicated in some way without the waiter storming out?

Uh, no... the most radical I got a` Paris was Steak Tartare for a late lunch.

The waiter made a careful point of reminding me this dish was not cooked. I said "Bien sur," and he fixed it up right at the table. Tasty.
