I had a water free hand sanitiser on my desk working at the NHS. People used to laugh because cleanliness on the wards is a BIG issue in this country and the suggestion was that I was practising for when the regs reached the office. But it made sense to me. Heck I observe the ten second rule when it comes to food so I've already eaten my peck of dirt, if I want to know my hands are clean I will.

I just wonder if my immune system will stand up if I have to start using public transport at rush hour again. I'm training it up by going on the buses when the children are leaving school. Filthy beggars are breeding grounds for anything going after all.

Lots of coughing and sneezing on the metro train this last week or two. I wish the sick fuckers would stay home. I try to take shallow breaths.

I've got this thing, where if I'm walking behind a herd of people, heading toward the gates, and someone in front of me sneezes, and I know I'll be passing through their cloud of aerosolized saliva hanging in the air, I'll hold my breath for about 20 seconds as I walk past the area and I squint my eyes closed into very tiny slits so the little germ specks don't land on my eyeballs. No idea if it works, but it can't hurt.

I do that too.

There is a catch-22, though. Some people can't afford to stay home sick. Some people just can't justify it in their heads. Some people are more susceptible to illness (due to immune systems, having children, using public transport) yet if they stayed home in order to avoid spreading illness when to do fall to germs, well, someone's gonna bitch!

When I came back on Tuesday I wouldn't touch anyone's paperwork if I was giving it back, and I didn't shake anyone's hand when I met them, explaining I'd been ill. Most people appreciate that. I was very careful, but so many people are not. This is evidenced by the state of the ladies rooms. :greenface

This discussion made me think of Shaun of the Dead, which we just watched again this week, particularly where Shaun is on the bus and everyone is looking zombified.

Damn, you've just aggravated my Pegg-withdrawal (Dana has my copy of Hot Fuzz and I told her all about it last week.
Might have to watch Shaun again tomorrow!

I almost bought Hot Fuzz, but I'd already seen it once at the theater (based, on DanaC's recommendation) and again on the flight back from Germany in August.

It's the extras that do it for me. Although M Pegg all buffed up makes the film eminently watchable :drool:
