People are just too afraid to offend anyone else anymore. Say what you want to say, if someone else doesn't like it's their problem. She knew it would be an inflammatory remark to conservative Christians, so she said it. Whoopdedoo. What else is on?
|
Why is it inflammatory? It's not.

I don't think that, just because she is an entertainer, she can't be referring to a real problem here; IE the confusion between God as a representation of what is morally right, and God as a representation of what is in someone's personal best interests.
It doesn't seem like such a big deal at the "let's win this football game" level, but when you get up to the "let's start a bloody, devastating war over it" level, it does become a problem for all of us, believers or otherwise. Maybe learning to flip the TV channel is a best first step, before we escalate to genocide, conquest, etc. |
Obviously it is to some if people are getting riled up about it. I'm not saying they should be, woohoo one weird lady's remark while receiving an award that'll really go down in the history books. If a person doesn't like what she said they need to just forget about it and move on with their life because it's pointless to get upset at one person's very brief remark. People do worse stuff everyday besides make a verbal remark that comes off offensive.

Bill Maher doesn't even say that. 'Nuff said.

You put that out there then get your panties in a wad when someone pokes fun at you then you need help. You should expect it. |
And if it's not even "safe" to poke fun at "God helped me win an academy award" then imagine what would happen to someone who questioned "God wants us to win this war"! Ha! Our society is hopelessly skewed towards the illogical if the voice of reason isn't even being heard.
