Glad you all are enjoying the photos. Here's the Montserrat gallery finally all uploaded.
Sorry zippy, there's a bit of a hurricane going on right now so I don't think I'll be able to fill that request haha.

My first wife's folks had a lovely mountain-side property on Montserrat. All gone.

I was sorry to hear that hurricane has kicked up to cat 2.... take care.

Stunning pics bullit! Looks like someplace to put on my short list.

Bullitt - Good luck riding the storm out; be sure to get some pictures of the cows flying by the window.

P.S. How do you like SmugMug? Which type of account do you have?

Bullitt 08-18-2007 06:59 PM

I'm actually back safe and sound in Ohio now, but thanks!
More photos are in the process of being uploaded (mostly of the storm), so have a look if you like.
I have the standard pay account on SmugMug HLJ. It's been great so far. Incredibly easy to upload photos, no bandwidth or storage restrictions, simple to organize, arrange, and tag photos, and a wide variety of customization. If you end up getting a pay account, use this coupon code in the "Referred By:" section: 1Aa1e6WPCEegw. Saves you $5.

Glad all is well, man, great job with the pictures. So the storm passed before you left?

Bullitt 08-18-2007 08:53 PM

Thanks bruce. Actually we got lucky and the storm zigged south of the island more towards Guadalupe and Dominica, so we didn't get the brunt of the storm. Curtain Bluff has facilities to provide fresh water and electricity during a storm, so our only concern was being able to leave the island on our scheduled flight.. which was right after the storm was projected to hit the island.

Any clue as to how far from shore that lobster trap would have been planted? In the bay? Open water?

Bullitt 08-19-2007 03:18 AM

I honestly couldn't say exactly where it came from. We were on the southern end of the island and the storm was coming north and east towards us so it could have been carried by the storm surge from a long way off. Or it could have been from Cades Reef which was a mile out from Curtain Bluff. It was made of sticks and wire so I imagine it belonged to a local fisherman, meaning that it likely wasn't out in open water but more likely from the reef or another bay.

Glad ya made it back safe and sound !!

Hey Bullit,

Looks like a great time and thanks for the images. It's a bit of a pain in the ass to get things organized for display.

Ok, maybe it's just a PITA for me. :)

What camera produced the images?

Bullitt 08-22-2007 09:26 AM

I was lucky enough to have DSL internet there, so I was able to upload just about everyday as the trip went on instead of having to wait until I came back and wading through 4 gigs of photos.

Camera: Nikon D50 with the kit 18-55 lens, Nikkor 30-85, and a Sigma 70-300.
