And I for one, missed him. How are ya tw?

Urbane Guerrilla 07-23-2007 09:08 PM

I never miss tw. I generally hit him dead center, and the rest of the time somewhere in the black.

Is that why you were gone for a week? Did your computer take a hit?

Nah, he just went to the store to get more tin foil and got abducted by aliens disguised as republicans on the way back.

Or, more likely, republicans disguised as aliens...

I never left. Nothing as posted justified a reply. Interesting and pleasantly entertaining was to watch DanaC, piercehawkeye45, BigV, and others confront myth with facts and commentary. No reason to comment even on a thermocouple length. Also interesting is the return of Chewbaccus.

But most interesting of all - did anyone notice? Urbane Guerrilla apparently picked up Thomas Barnett's book again. His reference to China as a member of the New Core implies he finally got through a few first chapters.

Barnett's book is not easy reading. It does require grasp of some fundamental military and political principles. Barnett takes it to some very complex and multidimensional conclusions. It will be interesting to see how Urbane Guerrilla deals with concepts that contradict his "America does not do nation building" political agenda.

I am surprised I even commented in this thread. In hindsight, there was nothing worth commenting on. But the RFID thread was going askew rather than going after a 'bigger picture'.

yesman065 07-24-2007 09:44 PM

Gee, thank goodness we have you to set us all straight tw.

Urbane Guerrilla 07-26-2007 12:49 AM

[Pauses to extrude tongue in tw's direction, as Barnett really ain't that obscurantist, checks off appropriate block on checklist, puts list away.]

Lightning would not harm me. I am a preferred member of that club. I am an EE.

Breasts.

Oh your breasts are EE?

Urbane Guerrilla 07-28-2007 12:14 AM

Oh, enough; he means Electrical Engineer, I think. Though having high-voltage sparks jumping from nipple to nipple...

...suggests possibilities for a nightclub act in the scariest venue in the city.

Boeing is doing something about it

Quote:

Seattle Times 07/22/2007

Brazilian scientist Expedito Parente, the man known as the father of biodiesel, told us he visited Seattle recently to further his collaboration with Boeing on a project to create biofuel for jets as an alternative to petroleum-based fuel.

Parente, founder of biodiesel producer TecBio, has been working with NASA and Boeing to develop vegetable-based fuels from palm oil crops to use as aviation-grade fuel, which he calls biokerosene. Ethanol made from sugarcane powers a third of the cars in Brazil, which has become a world leader in alternative fuels; even Brazilian regional-jet maker Embraer has built an ethanol-powered plane.

Aircraft fuel is a major expense for airlines. U.S. airlines use an average of 1.6 billion gallons of fuel each month, according to the Air Transport Association. The price per gallon has jumped from $1.208 in 2004 to $1.968 last year to $2.081 in May; each extra penny per gallon costs the industry almost $200 million per year.

Meanwhile Air New Zealand also is working with Boeing and New Zealand-based biofuel developer Aquaflow Bionomic, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. What's the source of the jets' new secret sauce? Wild algae, also known as pond scum. Guess this stuff won't smell quite as good as French fries.
Pond scum? There are people I know that could finally be of value to humanity.
