Maybe not a penis, but I'm sure some people think there are a few dicks around - based on the snarky comments I've read here lately.

I regard threadjacking of my threads as a badge of honor.

you can't make people respond as you wish to any thread. But I believe that the OP should have the right to delete the topic if he/she chooses.

I regard a thread's opening post's author as the 'owner' I guess. As for following rules, it depends on a thread's opening post. If an author asks for specific things, I try to adhere to those requests. The fun ones are the ones that seem to take the long way around a topic, sorta like accidently missing your turn, and finding a neat little part of town you never knew existed.

The Cellar: Drift happens.

I refer to F3's thread regarding my booty as 'mine' but that's only because it's about part of me.

I like that :)

What is an OP? Delete the topic? Do you mean delete the thread? I'm lost.

Cloud 05-30-2007 03:42 PM

You're an enlightened man, Bruce, to ask for directions.

OP = Original Poster.

Topic = Thread.

xoxoxoBruce 05-30-2007 03:52 PM

I thought I did.

So I you invite a bunch of people to play soccer and they decide they would rather play field hockey, you want to kill the game?

I think that's a bad idea.

Cloud 05-30-2007 03:56 PM

yes, you did.

I wouldn't kill a thread if it got off topic--I don't care about that at all.

If it digressed to a topic or discussion that I found personally offensive, or into attacking me personally, or appeared to be making everyone unhappy, then I would want that option, either by my own hand, or through a moderator or admin's kind offices.

Thread Drift is the essence of the organic, serendipitous magic that breathes life into the internet.

The alternative is, literally, sitting down in a room by yourself and typing up a Word document.

Guns!

Just kidding.

Threads are like sand castles. One person starts building, and others may join in. The original builder has a certain claim to it, but it's a public beach. Some of the contributors could start building in a completely different style, and they could overpower the original style. Or some jerk could walk in and kick it over.

Or build a bigger one right on top of it when you walk away to get a drink at the tiki bar.

You feel UT should kill any thread anyone says they find offensive? That Madam, is flagrant censorship. There wouldn't be any thread worth a shit left.
Just let go of the notion that it's your thread... it's not and thinking it is, will lead to more disappointment and heartbreak than having a teenage child.

Not at all. But I think someone who has posted a thread should have the option to withdraw it.
