I will second the recommendations for Miles Davis' Kind of Blue and Dave Brubek's Take Five. I don't really care for Coltrane. I prefer jazz that swings. But I tend to be old school.

I also highly recommend Somethin' Else by Cannonball Adderly. I find that I like most stuff by either of the Adderly Brothers.

I'm still a neophyte, but one of the things I've learned - you don't have to like all of it. It's a big field and there's lots of good stuff out there.

So....given that I know very little about it, but am kind of interested in hearing more, are there any jazz fans in here? If so any advice on stuff to listen to? So far I've mainly been listening to a little old school pre-50s stuff and some of the 'cool jazz' artists. I just went on ebay and ordered a Thelonius Monk cd. Hoping that lives up to expectations:)

I'll make you some great stuff and mail it to you if you like.
Just PM me if you want.
Also, check out NPR's schedule.
